With hearts full of love and profound sadness, the family of Anne “Annie Pie” McGovern shares that she passed away peacefully on the evening of March 13, 2026, in sync with a beautiful sunset. Annie was surrounded in her final days by the family and friends who loved her beyond words, leaving this world enveloped in grace, faith, love, and music.
Annie lived a radiant and spirited life—born to Fran and Grace Wagner in St. Louis, where she lived a full and beautiful life with her seven siblings and best friends. Annie moved to Kansas City after high school to attend Rockhurst University where she then started her family, raising her two kids Jessica, 38 and Alex, 33. Annie was healthy, young at heart, and always the first to sing, dance, or attend a concert. In December 2024, she was unexpectedly diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. With her characteristic strength, courage, and determination, she faced every challenge head-on, undergoing eight rounds of chemotherapy, twenty-eight rounds of radiation, and a Whipple surgery in August 2025. Ever resilient, Annie took joy in life’s precious moments, especially dancing at her son’s wedding this past summer—beautiful, joyful, and full of light.
As the months went on, and the cancer continued to spread, Annie chose to spend her remaining time surrounded by her loved ones, at home, and free of pain. Thanks to the devotion of her medical teams, hospice nurses, family, and dearest friends, her final weeks were filled with comfort, laughter, and peace. She left this world listening to the music she loved—Bruce Springsteen and Fleetwood Mac—and held by those dearest to her.
Annie is deeply loved and will be forever missed by her children, Jessica and Alex, their spouses, Jordan and Stacey; her two grandchildren, Olivia Grace and James Conlan; her seven siblings Cathy, Greg, Jan, Mary, Tess, Carol, and Steve; six siblings-in-law; her best friend since Kindergarten, Ann C., and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, co-workers and longtime friends. She is reunited in eternal peace with her beloved parents, Fran and Grace Wagner; niece, Jennifer Beckerman, dear friend, Dean Chininis, and her loyal dog, Brody.
Annie’s unwavering faith, boundless love, and fierce spirit inspired everyone who knew her. Her family takes solace knowing she has been welcomed home by her Savior and those who have gone before her.
A celebration of Annie’s beautiful life, strength, and faith will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church, 7231 Mission Rd, Prairie Village, KS 66208 on Tuesday, March 24. Visitation at 9:30 am, Mass at 11:00 am, where family and friends are invited to gather to honor her radiant legacy and the love she poured into every life she touched. In lieu of flowers, please help fight pancreatic cancer at www.pancan.org
The Mass will be livestreamed at: https://stannpv.org/annemcgovern.

My deepest sympathy to Ann ‘s family, her siblings , friends & their families ! Since I live in Germany I only met Anne twice in my life : once at the Wagner Family Reunion in 1993 and years later in Olathe and Kansas City when my husband and I visited Anne’s parents and family members who lived in the surroundings. During our visit we were driven around by Anne, her sister Tess and Tess’s husband Frank. There was an immediate connection between us although we were only distant relatives.Ann impressed us with her vivid personality , her open mind and her keen sense of humor. Thanks to frequent WhatsApp – contact with Frank and Tess Hughes and the occasional exchange of family photos I was able to share the lives of my paternal relatives in Kansas throughout the past years and follow Anne’s brave fight against her lethal illness until her death among loving family members and close friends.I have admired her for her psychic strength and her energy to participate in family events although her physical condition declined day by day….From the other side of the Atlantic I hug Ann’s family , relatives and friends in sympathy.Ann will always remain in my heart , thoughts and prayers .In loving memory and deep confidence that we ‘ll meet again some day, Annely Lauer ( from Schmelz, Germany ).
