Patricia Sue “Pat” Duncan
September 26, 1934 – March 16,2026

Patricia Sue Duncan, lovingly known as “Pat” and “Mimi,” passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026, at the age of 91.

Born on September 26, 1934, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Mildred and John L. McKee, Pat lived a beautiful life marked by love, grace, friendship, and a deep devotion to her family. She had a special gift for making people feel welcome and valued. Her warmth and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.

Pat graduated from Southwest High School with the Class of 1952 and later earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri in 1956. During her years at Mizzou, she was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Theta and met the love of her life, Byron P. Duncan. Their love story began there and continued for 63 wonderful years of marriage. She was also honored as the “Centennial Sweetheart” of the Missouri Sigma Chi chapter, a reflection of the charm and spirit she carried throughout her life. Along with being a proud Mizzou Tigersfan, she was an avid fan of the Kansas City Royals.

In her younger years, Pat worked at Saks Fifth Avenue while Byron served in the U.S. Army in New York. She also modeled during high school and college, carrying with her a natural elegance and confidence. Her love of fashion and beauty became a lifelong passion. She was part–owner of In Stitches, a beloved knitting and needlepoint shop on the Plaza, and later became co-owner of a Benetton clothing store in Kansas City in 1990. For more than 20 years, she was a cherished personal shopper at The Jones Store (later Macy’s) in Prairie Village, where she built lasting friendships and brought joy to so many through her style, warmth, and genuine care for others.

Above all else, Pat was devoted to her family. She poured her heart into being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was active in her children’s schools, serving as a PTA leader and supporting activities at Indian Hills Junior High and Shawnee Mission East High School. She showed up with love, encouragement, and pride in all the lives she touched. Her family was her greatest joy, and being “Mimi” was one of her most treasured roles.

Pat is survived by her two children, David Duncan (Kelly) and Kimberly Duncan Hunter (Rob); her five grandchildren, Matt Duncan (Karly), Kasey Duncan Sharpe (Nick), Allie Hunter Silvestri (Zach), Riley Hunter (Tucker Bates), and Lauren Hunter Merritt (Hayden); her seven great-grandchildren, Millie, Jack, Elle, Dakota, Penn, Colbie, and Miller, and her sister-in-law, Suzanne Capps. Her family will always remember her for the abundance of M&M’s in her home, her secret recipe homemade popcorn, and her sugar cookies.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Byron P. Duncan; her parents, Mildred and John L. McKee; and her brother, Mike McKee.

Pat will be remembered for her loving heart, her gracious spirit, her sense of style, and her extraordinary ability to make friends wherever she went. She brought light, laughter, and love to her family and friends, and her legacy will live on in the many lives she touched so deeply. She will be missed beyond words and remembered always.

The family welcomes contributions in honor of Pat to be sent to the Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Road, Prairie Village, Kansas 66208, and to St. Luke’s Hospice House, 3516 Summit Street, Kansas City, Missouri 64111.
