Gary “Brent” Young, age 66, of Oak Grove, MO, lost his fight with cancer on July 19, 2026.
Brent was born in Joplin, MO, on January 31, 1960, to Donald and Mary Young. He graduated from Memorial High School in Joplin, MO. He worked as a Journeyman Meat Cutter/Manager for 40+ years for several Joplin area grocery stores. He was a member of the UFCW Local 2. When not at work he could always be found outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, scuba diving, riding his dirt bike in his younger years and ATV in his later years, camping, hiking, and e-biking. He also enjoyed spending time with his wife, kids and his grandchildren. He loved to cook for his family and friends. He loved to make people laugh with his witty sense of humor. He never met a stranger and was always willing to help those in need.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kim Young, his father, Donald (Roberta) Young of Joplin MO, brother, Vince (Andi)Young of Dennison TX, sister Julia Young of Joplin, MO, his sons, Jared Young of Noel MO, Brandon (Amanda) Mercer of Oak Grove, MO, and his daughter Paige (Joe) Tristian of Mansfield, MO, and 6 grandchildren, Emma (Chas), Alex, Mason, Layla, Connor, and Lorenzo, and his two loyal fur companions Mister and Ladybear.
He will be laid to rest at Elmwood Cemetery in Kansas City, MO.

I love you Uncle Brent. So sorry for this huge loss Aunt Kim, I love you too. Love and hugs to all of my cousins, no matter the time and distance I love you all very much.

Brent was such a wonderful guy! We had a lot of laughs together and adventures ,snow skiing,diving,hiking,exploring rivers,boating,bike riding e.t.c
I met Brent 35 years ago working at Consumers and we have been best friends ever since!I will sure miss you buddy! Love You Man!
Very sorry to hear about Brent, worked with him for several years, he was a very hard worker and also a friend, definitely taught me a lot, so sorry about your families loss.
So sorry to hear of Brent’s passing. I went to school with him from Grade School through High School. We spent every Summer swimming at Leonard Pool. I used to talk to him occasionally at the store. He was a great guy. Praying for strength and comfort for the family at this time.
