DANIEL JOHN (DAN) KENNALEY III

KENNALEY, III. Dan Kennaley, 79, of Kansas City, MO, passed away on his birthday, July 8, 2011 at Kansas City Hospice House. Dan was born on July 8, 1932 in Dodge City, KS, raised in Wichita, KS, and Kansas City, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, Josephine (Mama Jo) and Dan (Papa Dan) Kennaley, II, and sister, Carolyn Fox. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kitty; children: Bob (Cindi), Karen (Joe) Byrnes, Jim (Pam), of Fayetteville, NC, Diane (John) Hirt, Dan, IV, Bill, of Dallas, TX, Pat, and Mike; 15 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and too many nieces, nephews, and cousins to list here.

Dan studied business at KSU in Manhattan, KS, and architecture and design at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. Dan worked in the design and construction industry all his life: designing, building and remodeling residential homes throughout the KC area. He led the design and construction of John Knox Village in Lee’s Summit, MO, and designed and constructed Executive Holmes Estates in KC. He was a member of the construction administration team of the new Chicago White Sox’s Comiskey Park, design consultant for the KCSJ-Diocese and was known as “Mr. FHA” to the HUD housing authority for over 20 years. He was an associate member of the American Institute of Architects, 4th degree knight in the Knights of Columbus Assembly 566 and a Boy Scout leader. He will be greatly missed. Visitation, 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., July 12, 2011, beginning with the rosary. Funeral Mass, 10 a.m., July 13, 2011. All services at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with graveside services immediately following Mass at Calvary Cemetery.
