John C. “Jack” Baker, 74, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully at home on February 23, 2026.
Born on August 22, 1951, Jack was the beloved son of the late John W. Baker and Rita Baker.
A graduate of Archbishop O’Hara High School, Jack went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications from University of Central Missouri and later received his MBA from Rockhurst University. He built a long and respected career in Information Technology, where he was known for his integrity, work ethic, and thoughtful leadership. In retirement, he proudly served his community as Grand Knight of the Scott City Knights of Columbus and as head of the regional library board, giving generously of his time, leadership, and heart. Yet those who knew him best might argue his most revered role, by far, was Head of Procurement at Scott City Salvage.
Jack had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and cherished river trips with friends and family. Whether traveling, exploring nature, or simply enjoying time together, he valued shared experiences and meaningful conversation.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Thomas Baker.
Jack is survived by his loving wife, Mary Baker; his children, Jackson Baker (Allison), Emily Baker and Samuel Baker (Dianna); grandchildren JJ, Louise, Remi and Gus; sisters, Kathleen (Steve) Frederickson, Patty Vilag, and Janet (Kevin) O’Hara; and his brother, Bill (Tracy Halward).
Nothing brought Jack greater joy than time spent with Mary, his children, and his grandchildren, who were the light of his life.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Visitation Church on March 6, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. and Mass at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or the Ozark River Ways Foundation.
Jack will be remembered for his quiet strength, enduring love for his family, and his deep appreciation for faith, nature, and lifelong friendship. For Jack, life was like any good river trip: the journey is the destination.

I served with Jack on the Library Board and am a member of Knights of Columbus of Scott City where I served with him. I considered him a good friend. May he RIP.
