Margaret Mary O’Connor Porter was born October 4th, 1955 to Edward and Kathleen O’Connor in Kansas City, MO. She passed peacefully on December 29th, 2019 surrounded by love. She lived a joyous and laughter filled life which she shared with her husband, children, grandchildren, siblings, parents and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am on Friday January 3, 2019 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 815 E. Meyer Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64131, followed by a celebration of her beautiful life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wayside Waifs, 3901 Martha Truman Rd. Kansas City, MO 64137.
Margaret was known by many names including Peg, Peggy, Margo, Aunt Peg, Miss Margaret and of course, Grandmother. Each of these titles was a point of pride for Peggy. She had an irreplaceable bond with every single person in her life. She was able to light up a room with her laughter and radiant energy just as she was able to be a quiet calm in the storm.
As a lover of comfort, Peggy found the most solace in her husband of thirty-five years, Bill. He was the foundation she built her love for life upon. Her sense of humor was a pinnacleof her personality that she passed down to both of her children, Liam and Maura, her daughter-in-law, April, as well as her gaggle of nieces and nephews. She was always there to poke fun and find the mischief in the mundane. There are countless tales of shenanigans with her siblings Ned, Eileen, Kathy, Sean and Bridgie which were most often led by Peggy herself. She was quick witted and could carry on a conversation with just about anyone. A trait inherited from both her father, Edward and her mother, Kathleen.
Peggy’s greatest joy in this life was her granddaughters, Ainsley Grace and Emma Jean. She was fortunate enough to care for them every Saturday night. They were her favorite topic of conversation and best friends. In Ainsley, she fostered a spirit of unlimited adventure and determination. Even in little Emma, Peggy left behind a readiness to greet everyone with a smile.
Whether it was her giving spirit, her willingness to brush off the bad stuff or her truly loving heart, Peggy was never short of a friend, both human and animal alike. It was effortless for her to love and be loved in return. Most importantly, she saw the best in everyone she met thus letting them see the best in themselves.
Peggy will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
We only know her through her wonderful daughter, Maura, but it is clear she served as a bright light during her earthly sojourn. Her radiance shines and is carried on through her children. My very deepest sympathy as you learn to navigate without her physical presence in your lives.
Peggy was, I think, the most like her dad of the siblings….always with a smile or giggle or laugh. Never can remember her in a bad mood. We could all do worse than to be more like her. Her cousins, siblings, immediate family and all of her many friends will miss her laughter and presence.
So heart-breaking to hear about Peggy. I will never forget her sense of humor, or that wonderful laugh. Prayers go out to her family.
This is the most beautifully written tribute I have ever read! I didn’t know Peggy, but I know her brother Sean. From knowing him I can understand what a loving, fun family they shared.
My sympathy to all and may she be at peace forever. Ann Fallin

Always loved Peggy,O’Connor-Porter families are in my thoughts and prayers.
In the few times I had the pleasure of spending time with Peg, it was purely radiant! She was loving, accepting, joyful, playful, and optimistic. Not to mention, complimentary. To Bill, Liam, Maura, and the rest of Peg’s family and friends, we offer our most sincere sympathies. She was literally one of a kind; one we will never see the likes of again. To Peg, and all that stands for love and laughter, you are soaring with the angels now.
I only met Margaret this year when she would bring her students into the library. She always had a smile on her face. She was like a ray of sunshine in he library.
Miss Margaret was so precious with all the students she worked with at Wheatley. She loved each child unique to that child and always provided just the right encouragement needed at that moment. She will be greatly missed by all who she has touched.
I love all the ladies in my class of ’73 at STA and I have personal memories of them all. What I remember about Peggy was she was always game for fun and pranks – a quick laugh, a creative sense of humor, and always a twinkle in those beautiful blue eyes. Prayers to the Porter /O’Conner family during this difficult time. Rest well, ladybug.
Bill
May the road rise to meet you
May the wind always be at your back
May the sun shine bright upon your face
The rain fall softly upon your fields
And until you meet Peg again
May God hold you in the palm of His hand
Love You

When Bill told me Magaret had passed I was crushed. We all were. Magaret was a truly special person. She was someone that brought sunshine into darkness everyday. Her heart and her memory and spirit continues to live on.
God bless you Margaret.
And may God hold Bill and the rest of Margaret’s family and friends in the palm of his hands as we cherish her memory.
I worked with Margaret whenever I substituted in her classroom at Wheatley. She was such a delight to work with. Always had a smile on her face and kind words for everyone. The children were her passion. We talked about a lot but I had no idea we attended St. Teresa’s together. I was in the class of 71. I will never forget Margaret and cherish the time we shared in the classroom
What a personality!!! Peggy was kind to all and what I remember most was her laugh. So sad to learn the news. My heart and prayers are with you Ned, and all of your extended families! May God bring great comfort to each of you as you picture Peggy in the great big arms of her creator, God. God bless you all!
I always enjoyed a lunch conversation with Margaret and her positive smile. Her fun and crazy holiday attire always brightened my day. I will really miss seeing her at Wheatley.
I didn’t know her, but I worked at Wheatley for 16 years, before moving on to a different school. My condolences to the family!
Though I didn’t get to see her much the past decade, Peggy and her infectious laugh and irrepressible humor will live long in my heart! Rest In Peace dear Peggy ❤️ Love, Megan O’Hara
