Martha “Marty” Nolte died December 10, 2014 at Village House in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, after a long illness. Marty was born April 12, 1930, in Mexico, Missouri, to Cannon and Kay Souder. She moved with her parents to Kansas City, Missouri, when she was a small child. Marty met Murray Nolte at church in Kansas City, Missouri, when she was 18 and fell in love. They married within a year of meeting, on November 6, 1949. The happy couple welcomed their first son, Mark (Murray III) on December 1, 1950. Murray and Marty moved to Johnson County, Kansas, in 1952 and lived there for over 50 years.
Murray started a career in radio and television in Kansas City and Marty was a devoted, supportive wife and mother, welcoming two more children in the 1950s, Melissa and Matthew. Marty was very talented in many ways, including art, crafts, cooking, home décor and more. She also had a long career in the payroll office of J.C. Penneys for many years where she was highly valued for her attention to detail and dedication. She and Murray had a loyal and fun loving group of friends for decades and enjoyed hosting social events and family get-togethers with great hospitality. Marty was passionately dedicated to her family as a beautiful, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt. She was beloved by anyone who had the good fortune of knowing her. She will be missed by all.
Marty was preceded in death by her parents, brother Richard Souder, and husband Murray. Marty is survived by her son Murray (Kittie) Nolte of Lee’s Summit, daughter Melissa Nolte of Lawrence, son Matt (Pam) Nolte of Paola, six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, and countless nephews and nieces and great nephews and nieces. A service will be held Saturday, December 13 at 2 p.m. at the John Knox Village Chapel, Lee’s Summit, MO.
