Martin Pius O’Laughlin, M.D., died peacefully on December 22, 2018. Born on May 16, 1955 in Kansas City, Missouri to George and Genevieve O’Laughlin, he graduated from Rockhurst High School and Harvard College, and received his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons.
A pediatric cardiologist, Martin practiced medicine for over 30 years in Houston, Texas, Durham, North Carolina, and Kansas City, Missouri, in addition to teaching all over the world. He loved every minute of his career, a love that was reflected back to him by his many patients and their parents.
Martin made a warm impression on everyone he met, not only with his quick wit and infectious smile, but also with his genuine curiosity, compassion, and respect for all people, young and old.
In recent years, he enjoyed living in New York City, surrounded by close friends who supported him in the last years of his battle with Parkinson’s disease. The family wishes to thank everyone for their love and good wishes during his long illness.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Jennifer O’Laughlin, and his daughters Molly and Claire, as well as his siblings and extended family. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by his family and many close friends across the globe.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00pm on Saturday, December 29, 2018, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 1001 East 52nd St, Kansas City, MO 64113. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask friends of Martin to honor his memory by contributing to Make-A-Wish Foundation or NYU’s Fresco Institute for Parkinson’s & Movement Disorders.

I truly enjoyed being in the same grade with Martin at SPS. Always kind, gentle and smart. My sincere sympathy to all of his family.
I knew Martin through grade school and high school. Always knew him as kind and intelligent, so good to see the great things he accomplished in life. Let’s all honor him with donations to one of the excellent charities the family has suggested
