Richard Kenneth Weidemeyer, beloved father and friend, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2024 at the age of 86. Born on May 29, 1938, in Los Angeles, CA, Richard moved to Yearington, NV at the age of 9. After graduating high school, he moved to Kansas City, where he embarked on a career in law enforcement, serving as a police officer for the Kansas City Police Department until his retirement after 25 years. He later pursued a second career as a security officer.
An avid motorcyclist, Richard was a proud member of the Blue Knights, a retired law enforcement officers motorcycle club. He found immense joy in riding with his Blue Knights friends, cherishing the camaraderie and shared adventures. His love for the open road and the friendships he formed through the club were a vital part of his life.
He is survived by his son, Scott Weidemeyer, and daughter-in-law, Miriam Henry. Richard was preceded in death by his long-time life partner of 30 years, Sharon Moore and his beloved dog, Baxter.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be held on January 4, 2025 at 1pm at Signature Funeral Home, 406 E Bannister Rd. Ste D, Kansas City, MO 64131. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Great Plains SPCA in his memory.
I knew Richard a long time. Both at the PD and after that as well. We worked off-duty together at the Muehlebach Hotel and also shared a passion for Motorcycles. I sure enjoyed being around him. Sad to see him pass. Hopefully his friends and his motorcycle will be waiting for him up in heaven
Rest in peace my beloved friend. You were the single bright spot during my time in Kansas City.
Richard married my Aunt Emma and they moved to Downey, Idaho in the late 70’s. In Downey, he purchased and brought, the towns small historic movie theatre, back to life! It was an amazing gift to our small farming community. He loved greeting the movie goers and rewarding the local kids with free popcorn and snacks.
When he and my Aunt divorced we weren’t sad because he was
OUR Uncle Richard for life!
When I graduated from High School and College he was there! When I got my 1st Apartment, he was there! When I got married, he was there smiling at me! When I moved to Seattle and opened a Preschool he came and read to the kids!
Even though he was back living in MO he was ALWAYS there for the big moments.
I will truly miss him. I have no doubt that when it is my time to go Uncle Richard will be there, waiting for me.
