Ruth C. Potter, age 87, of Independence, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2016. Ruth was born and raised in Fort Collins, Colorado. She graduated from Fort Collins High School, and then attended Graceland College where she earned her Associates Degree. She then moved to Independence Mo where she attended Nursing School at the Independence Sanitarium and Hospital.
Ruth was an avid volunteer. She and her husband Bob, provided nursing home ministry in the Camdenton area using their pastoral and musical talents. They lived for two years in Nauvoo IL. and Kirtland Ohio serving at the Community of Christ Historical Sites. She also volunteered at the Community of Christ Temple, Outreach International, and provided pastoral ministry at The Groves.
Ruth and Bob were married for 61 years. She is survived by her two daughters Marlene Carnahan and Sandy McCormick and their husbands (the Doug’s). She has three granddaughters, Katie (Josh) Shipley, Christy (John) Hansen, and Allison (Justin) Leopold, and five great-grandchildren.
A service for Ruth will be held on January 7th at 10:00 a.m. at the South Chrysler Community of Christ Church, 3100 South Chrysler, Independence, MO. family suggest donations to Outreach International in lieu of flowers. (outreach-international.org)
