Sheri C. “Kay” Sitzmann, 61, of Basehor, Kansas died on October 19, 2023.
Sheri was born to Ron and Kay Sitzmann on February 22, 1962, in Chicago, Illinois. The family moved to Merriam, Kansas in 1969. She attended school in the Shawnee Mission School District, and received her undergraduate degree from Emporia State University. She subsequently earned her Master’s Degree in “Special Education and Family Studies” from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.
Sheri worked in the Lee’s Summit School District before moving to the Leavenworth School District where she taught early childhood special education at both David Brewer Elementary School and Earl M. Lawson Elementary School. She completed her career at the Leavenworth County Special Education Cooperative, as an Itinerant teacher in early childhood education. Sheri was well known for her wealth of knowledge and honed communication skills while working with these special children and their families.
To complete her life, she adopted three beautiful children, Nia, Tara and Alyssa, as toddlers and lived her life to its fullest. These three girls became her “Pride and Joy” of a remarkable life. Even though she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis thirteen years ago, she made the most of her life. She loved spending quality time with her numerous friends (many of whom she met during high school) and loving family.
Her loss will be deeply felt by all who loved and cared for her especially her three daughters, and one granddaughter, Niyonna. They were truly the pride and joy of her life.
Sheri is preceded in death by her loving father Ron. She is survived by her mother, Kay Sitzmann, of Overland Park, Kansas; her brothers Doug, Greg and his wife Karen Sitzmann, their daughters Kayla, Megan and Taylor of Shawnee, Kansas; her aunts and an uncle and her dear friend and caregiver, Mary Ann Pitnick, of the home.

Sheri Kay you were such a role model and mentor. I learned so much from you and became a better teacher because of you.
