Stacy Craig Stevens was born in Marshfield, MO to Maraland & Larry Stevens on April 15th, 1967. He passed away on July 29th, 2024, at his home in Westwood, Kansas after a long fight with ALS.
Stacy grew up a lover of horses and nature. He graduated from UMKC Medical School in 1992 and did his radiology residency in Kansas City before serving 5 years as a doctor with the US Air Force in San Antonio, Texas. In 2000 Stacy completed his fellowship in Musculoskeletal Imaging at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA, where he met his wife Dr. Emily Kaufman. Stacy and Emily welcomed their son Lucas in 2004 and ultimately settled in Kansas City where Stacy established a successful career as a radiologist.
Stacy was a multitalented and resourceful man who was always willing to help his friends and neighbors. He was a phenomenal cook who brought his engineering talents and intelligence into the kitchen and into everything that he created. He loved to bake his own bread, brew his own beers, distill his own liquor, roast his own coffee beans, ferment his own Kombucha, and take care of everything around the house. He loved biking, cooking, traveling, and spending time with his friends and loved ones.
He is survived by his wife Emily, his son Lucas, his dog Paco, parents Maraland & Larry, siblings Damien, Jenalee, and Zachary, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Emily and Lucas would like to extend a special thank you to those who supported the family through Stacy’s illness. They would also like to recognize the VA and the Paralyzed Veterans of America as well as In Home Care Services LLC and all of the devoted and kind caregivers who assisted them throughout his battle with ALS.
This is so heartbreaking. He fought the hardest fight. Emily and Lucas, the Simonsen’s are thinking of you and sending our love.
We are all so devastated by Stacy’s disease and passing. We are so sad for Emi and Lucas and wish them comfort in this terrible time. I have been in awe of Emi’s absolute dedication to Stacy “in sickness and in health” over the past 2 decades – Emi has been an inspiration to me.
Stacy has been one of the funniest and most loyal friends a person could have. Stacy was always up for a good time and he never let you down. After all of the fun throughout med school, we continued to have fun across the country at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, wedding adventures, radiology meetings and fun reunions.
We love you Stacy and I will never forget you.
Love this photo of Stacy’s beautiful smile and his child’s sweet face. Stacy volunteered to have an nasogastric tube put into his nose down to his stomach in front of our class during our first years of medical school and he was the brave standard by which I’ve measured all patients since that time. I was so happy to see him at our reunion a couple of years ago. He will be dearly missed.
The strongest and most principled man one will ever now. Solid, real, reliable, decent. Sorely missed.
Sending you strength today and peace in all the days ahead.
Some of the best times of my life were with my good buddy Stacey. One of the funniest, most intelligent, and genuine humans I have ever known. you will be missed- RIP. Steve

What a beautiful photo of Stacy and Lucas. I was realky touched by the text about his life that shows him as he was. A great father, lover of nature and ecology. I remember his laughter. We will miss him. Lola, Alan and Remi
My dear friend Stacy. I so am going to miss you and the times we spent together. Rest in peace my friend. You will be missed for eternity.
I love you.
Love to All 🙏❤️
Carol
