Teena Sims, retired Director of Adult Education at Olathe Bible Church, and resident of Olathe, KS, passed away on December 25, 2017 at the age of 61 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Teena is survived by her husband, David Sims; her daughters Meridith and Miranda; and her brothers Terome and Gordon. She is predeceased by her parents, Roy and Rosemary Gough.
Teena was born in Marion, Indiana on July 8, 1956 to Roy and Rosemary. She graduated from Taylor University in 1978 with a Bachelor’s degree in English and later graduated from Ball State University with a Master’s degree in Library Science. She fell in love with David Sims, and they were married on July 28, 1979. She taught English at the junior high, high school and college level for several years. On May 4, 1984 and February 17, 1988, respectively, she welcomed their two beautiful daughters, who were the most important part of her life. She served on the staff at Olathe Bible Church for 18 years prior to her retirement in April 2017.
Teena was a devoted mother and wife. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her granddaughter. She enjoyed reading novels and being social in her church community. She was a devout Christ-follower and a mentor to many women over the years, too numerous to count. She will be deeply missed by friends, family, and all who were blessed to know her.
A funeral service is scheduled for 10:30 am on December 30 at Olathe Bible Church 13700 W. 151st St, Olathe, KS 66062. Pastor John Blackburn will officiate.
Teena was an amazing woman. I was honored to have been a friend of hers, a co-worker and was also blessed to travel with her. Teena has laughed and cried with me. I will miss her so much—I am still having a difficult time with her passing. Praying for the entire family.
Teena was a dear friend and mentor to me. She has been there for me weekly for close to two years. Over that time, we became very close friends. We did many bible studies together, the last being, “I Am”, by Lisa TerKeurst, “How Jesus Fully Satisfies the Cry of Your Heart”. Teena picked this study out for the Ladies of the Women of Purpose Adult Bible Study at Olathe Bible Church, before she retired. We decided to do the study together, one on one. We had finished the study just weeks before she went to be with her Savior. Of all of our devotions that we worked on individually, our favorite time with the Lord, was working on this study individually in preparation to go over it together. It included a video as well. It was such precious times together going over those passages that really touched our hearts, as well as discussing the questions in each chapter of the study. I know it was a comfort to Teena to be doing this study while she was fighting her cancer battle. I believe it helped fortify her.
I have so many wonderful memories of being part of her Life Group on most Sunday evenings. One of our Life Group Outings was riding bumper cars, which Teens was quite good at!
I will treasure those special times with Teena as well as the many outings that we had together, especially, the KC Symphony’s, “Celebration At The Station”, May 28, 2017 along with the Gullicksons and the Bonars.
I love you Teens and am especially missing you today. It’s been a hard day grieving our daughter, Christina’s death., even though it has been over 7 months that she has been gone. I know where she is and where you are, in the hands of Jesus!!
I love you Teena!!!
