Kevin Joseph O’Neill, 66, passed away May 31, 2024.
The youngest son of Jack L. and Marjorie O’Neill, Kevin was born Feb. 23, 1958, entering the world at a whopping 11 pounds, 13 ounces and 24 inches long. Kevin’s zest for life was evident in his every interaction and eclipsed only by his love for his family. He married Elizabeth Burke in 1985 and the two share four wonderful children and four equally wonderful grandchildren. A proud graduate of Rockhurst High School Class of ’76, Kevin matriculated down the field to Kansas University where he earned his degree. Kevin went on to become a partner at C&O Electric Sales, where he served for more than 35 years. He was devoted to the company’s ongoing success, and his customers, employees and partners were lifelong associates and friends. Kevin made it part of his life’s mission to promote his beloved Kansas City and all it has to offer, christening himself “Mr. Kansas City.” He was a tireless supporter of the Rockhurst Hawklets, KU Jayhawks and Kansas City Royals. He looked glamorous in his Red Blazer, as he was a “Red Coater” for his Kansas City Chiefs. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Susan Kathleen O’Neill and John “Patrick” O’Neill and Pat’s wife Mary Kay nee (Kodadek); brother-in-law, Roger L. Cobb. Kevin is survived by his wife Liz and their children Kathleen (Kate) Downey (Travis); Jack O’Neill (Katie); Charlie O’Neill and Michael O’Neill. Kevin adored his four granddaughters, Theresa, Zelie and Maggie Downey and Collins O’Neill. Survivors also include his sisters Jeannine Herrera and Cindy Cobb. He was most fond of his in-laws, Carol and Tom Burke. He was a beloved uncle to countless O’Neill and Burke family nieces and nephews, whom he loved as his own. Kevin never met a stranger and those “new best friends” joined the throngs of “lifelong friends” and were welcomed into the “big fun” that was Kevin’s Hallmark. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 8, 2024 at St. Ann Catholic Church, 7231 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS 66208. Visitation at 11:00 am followed at Noon by Mass. The family would like to thank Catholic Community Hospice for their help caring for Kevin. Kevin will be Missed by the Stanion Family For Sure. Thoughts and Prayers go out to his Family.
I am filled with a great sadness and still some disbelief that such a friend, brother bartender, and full-of-life person has left us. And “character” comes to mind, as Mr. Kansas City could be quite a character too.
It’s a tremendous loss for all of us … every life-long friend, Royals & Chief’s friend, and “Hawk” friend. The new friends KO made on a daily basis will now never know his big smile, booming voice, bluster, and especially his great heart.
I remember my “little” cousin Kevin always had a smile that really lit up a room. He loved his family including my mother, Shirley. My sympathies to his children and grandchildren.
Kevin will be missed! Kevin welcomed me to the c&o family 3.5 short years ago and was glad i had the chance to meet him. Prayers for the O’neill Family!
God Bless our dear friend Kevin.
There gO’es a REALLY decent man and friend.
Every once in a while this world is gifted with someone who never misses maximizing his life in every second they live. They do it with a strong faith, love of family, country, city and friends. They enjoy every moment of life so vigorously while taking you along with them for the ride. If you were to look up the definition of this kind of person there would simply be a picture in Websters of my friend Kevin. While we all know this world will be a lesser place because of our loss we can take comfort in the fact that heaven is now more of a greater place to be! Rest in peace Kevin and God bless your family!
Kevin, will be missed by the Dearinger family. We have many memories, that we hold near and dear to our hearts. ❤️🥰 prayers, for his family 🙏🙏🙏
I have no words……
I met Kevin in May of 1977 when I was hired on at Rensenhouse Supply. Kevin was working his summers there. Over the years you couldn’t help but love the guy. My condolences to his family. He will be missed by many. Greg Pike
