Margret “Peggy” Ellen (Antonacci) Scovil passed away on May 6, 2025 surrounded by family. She was born May 19, 1943, to Thelma (Martin) and Herman Antonacci. Margret was called Peggy most of her life, and towards the end, she preferred using her Christian name.

Margret had an idyllic childhood in Peoria Heights, IL. Admittedly, not the most apt pupil, she always credited the nuns’ tenacity for the excellent education she received. After marriage, she briefly lived in Chicago (loved it) before moving to Kansas City. From the late 1960s into the mid-aughts, she lived on the same Romanelli block with “the best” neighbors. She enjoyed working at the Unvarnished Truth furniture store in the 1980s before starting her career with the telephone company (Southwestern Bell/AT&T).

Margret’s loving home provided a refuge for family, friends, and many pets, including a Siamese cat which stubbornly refused to leave when her daughter married and moved. Her cozy family room, with its wood burning fireplace, navy blue carpet, and stocked bookshelves, remains a fond memory for many loved ones. Her screened-in side porch was another favorite gathering place at her home.

After retirement, she loved working in her yard (and thankfully, her daughter’s yard, too), volunteering in the library at her grandchildren’s school, and working as an election judge on voting day. She traveled some and often reminisced about her pilgrimage to the Holy Land. She found it reverent…and exhausting–lots of walking and sacred places to see!

Happily, she visited her family in Los Angeles during the last month of her life. She loved attending Mass at St. Timothy’s in west LA. She visited Hollywood Boulevard, enjoyed a cappuccino on the Venice Beach Boardwalk, and a sushi dinner with her son and grandchildren.

Our mother and sister will be sadly missed by her children, Mark Scovil, Sarah (Scovil) Spearman and her husband, Neil, and Justin Scovil; her siblings, Mary Ann Ascuitto, Richard Antonacci, Kathy Hoferer; her grandchildren, Mavis & Graham Spearman, Vera & Eli Scovil; and the many other loved ones in her life. May she meet in heaven her beloved parents and infant sister, Christine.

A celebration of Margret’s life will be held Saturday, May 17th, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 2 E. 75th St, KCMO. The rosary will be prayed at 10:00 am until 10:25 am, visitation following, and the Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 am.  In lieu of gifts, please consider a donation in Margret’s name to St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, the City Union Mission, or IFCJ (International Fellowship of Christians and Jews).
