Bradley Eugene Scafe met his Lord and Savior on August 5, 2025, after courageously facing a battle with Glioblastoma. He leaves behind a legacy of love, integrity, and unwavering devotion to his family, friends, and colleagues. Brad was a dedicated husband, proud father, loving grandfather, son, and younger brother.
Brad was born in Kansas City, Kansas, to Myron and Bette Scafe on October 23, 1958. Brad graduated from The University of Kansas in 1980. He married his high school sweetheart in 1981, and they began their life together in Wichita, Kansas for several years before returning to Overland Park in 1994.
He embarked on a distinguished business career, eventually founding Benefit Trust Company in 2002. He was known not only for his success but for his humility and genuine care for others. Brad believed in lifting people up. His accomplishments were never just his own but were shared with those around him. He created a workplace where relationships mattered and where everyone felt seen and valued.
Outside of work, Brad spent his time with his family. He cherished his life with Kim and always made her the center of everything he did. He was a constant presence in his sons’ lives. He could be found on a field, either watching or coaching baseball, soccer, or football, and he spent countless hours in the backyard playing catch or throwing soft toss. Brad was an outdoorsman as well, spending time with his sons fishing, hunting, and going on yearly family ski trips to Colorado. Brad always extended his love to his three daughters-in-law, and four exuberant grandchildren. He enjoyed and treasured the family moments of laughter, adventure, and love when all were gathered at the family farm. That was his happy place.
Brad’s outgoing personality will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him. From his family and friends to his close-knit work colleagues, Brad greeted everyone with a smile, warm handshake, and more than likely a nickname. Brad’s legacy lives on by all the lives he touched and through all the opportunities he made possible for those around him.
Brad is survived by his wife of 44 years, Kim. His sons, Jordan (Brandi), Carston (Jenna), Parker (Meredith). Grandchildren Kaelyn (10), Taylor (8), Hunter (5), and Owen (11 months). His mother, Bette Scafe, and his brother, Greg Scafe (Barb). Brad was preceded in death by his father, Myron, and his sister, Terry.
Brad’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, August 23, with a memorial service, beginning at 11:00 AM in the Wesley Chapel at Resurrection Church, 13720 Roe Avenue, Leawood, Kansas. Immediately following the memorial service, a Celebration of Life will be held at Bourgmont Winery, 20299 Quivira Road, Bucyrus, Kansas, with special remarks made at 2:00 PM. The service will be live-streamed at http://cor.org/memorialsonline
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care 9001 State Line Rd. KCMO 64113 https://kchospice.org/donate/ or Head For The Cure 5K Run/Walk, benefiting brain tumor research. https://headforthecure.org/donate/
As we say goodbye to Brad, we honor his memory by living as he did, by showing up for others, cherishing time with loved ones, and greeting each day with kindness and purpose.

Brad was a great guy, that world will truly miss. God bless.
We love the Scafes and will forever miss Brad – what a wonderful man who made a lasting impact on so many, including our family ❤️
I am forever grateful that Brad had the vision and guts to adopt a (sometimes) surly bunch of accountants from across the state line. He got to know each and every one of us and truly cared. Much love and strength to the Scafe family as they navigate this heartbreaking loss.
I hold deep love for the Scafes family and will forever miss Brad. His generosity, integrity, and warmth touched countless lives, leaving a legacy of kindness and inspiration. I feel blessed to have known him, and his impact will remain with me always.
Brad had a gift for bringing people together, and for that I will always be grateful. He shared stories about his family — especially the grandkids on their ponies — in a way that made you feel part of the joy.
Although similar in age, I considered him a mentor and a treasured friend. He always showed up, and after even a quick conversation, you left feeling empowered. His integrity and wisdom were unmatched, and his humor could light up room.
My deepest condolences to Kim and the rest of his family. God Bless You.
Brad was one of my most favorite work colleagues at both Intrust and Boatmen’s. He was always a joy to be around with his terrific sense of humor. He was great to work with because of his keen business sense and his superior skills at selling. I will truly miss him but at least I have the memories of the good times we shared together.
We are so saddened to learn of Brad’s passing. Our deepest sympathy to Kim and the family.
My sincere condolences to the Scafe family. I was so saddened to hear of Brad’s passing and happy I made it to KC to have lunch with him last year. Brad was one of the kindest people I’ve ever known, always treating me like a friend rather than a client. I have so many fond memories of sharing dinners with him, laughing as he thoughtfully ordered for the whole table. He was not only a brilliant businessman but also someone who made everyone feel like family. I’ll miss our spirited banter about the Chiefs and Eagles, and most of all, I’ll miss his friendship. Rest in peace, Brad—you left a lasting mark on all of us who were lucky enough to know you.
Just heard of Brad’s passing-so sorry to hear of this and of your loss-i was Brad’s RA in the dorm at KU- have many fun memories of Brad from that time in our lives-many of his “dormmates” have already reached out which speaks to the impact Brad had on all of us even 50 years ago-we share the sorrow in your loss but appreciate the opportunity to have known such a great guy
Kim: I was so sad to recently learn of Brad’s cancer journey. I HATE cancer and what it takes from a family. I always admired you & Brad, a beautiful couple, who lived in the cutest house in Eagle Lake. I wish there was a better word than sorry. Be gentle with yourself as the grieving journey is tough to endure. Love & prayers.
I met Brad at Lifetime Fitness as one of those 4am crazy people. We moved on to Precise Fitness and ultimately KC Strength Lab. It was always fun to see his smiling face in the morning. He inspired me and mentored me for both business and fitness.
His upbeat attitude and genuine interest put a smile on my face. His commitment to his family, customers, and community was something I will always appreciate.
I will miss you Brad.
Brad was a great man! He will be truly missed!
Brad Scafe, quite simply, remains a role model for all he touched. I’ve never met anyone as humble, intelligent, courageous and wise. His family, most especially beautiful Kim, were the focus of his life. This is a loss that is not easily borne.
I just learned of Brad’s passing. He was a true gentleman and trust guru. He very generously helped me and my trust colleagues many times. I had the pleasure of meeting several of his family who are as warm and kind as Brad. The Scafe Family is in my thoughts and prayers and please know that Brad enhanced the lives of many of us.
Brad was one of my favorite colleagues in the DC industry. I learned of his passing last week at DCIIA. I missed him and his glorious smile and welcoming stance. We will miss him.
