Peggy Hogan Guignon died peacefully surrounded by her children  in Kansas City, her hometown for all 96 beautiful years of her life.

Peggy was born on June 28,1930 to Elizabeth and Ed Hogan. She was the youngest of four girls and spent her childhood on East 68th Street in the Brookside area, walking to St. Peter’s Grade School, then Southwest High School.

While attending Southwest, Peggy caught the eye of upperclassman Pierre “Pete” Guignon. It would prove to be a match made in heaven, and they enjoyed 64 years of marriage.

Being true Brooksiders, Peggy and Pete made their own homeon 68th Street and filled it with five children. For more than three decades, “Twenty Two East” was a center of warmth, laughter, joy, togetherness and downright fun. It was a welcoming cocoon of comfort and peace during life’s difficulties.

Peggy truly embodied what it means to make a home, always preparing enough food to entertain unexpected folks who might drop by– friends, neighbors, or extended family. Her easy refrain was, “Grab a plate and pull up a chair, we have plenty!”

Peggy had a wonderful throw-your-head-back-laugh, and exuded calm and an almost laissez-faire attitude about life.  But that calm demeanor was not to be confused with wishy washiness. She had an unabashed moral code and was very straightforward with her opinions. From National issues of Civil and human rights to how to behave at a party (be gracious, thankful, pitch in) Peggy’s Moral Code was never a question.

After her youngest went to college, Peggy decided it was time to learn something new and she studied to be a travel agent, a career that allowed her and Pete to travel the world for more than 25 years.

Family was the center of Peggy’s life, and she felt genuinely elated with each and every addition to it. By the day she died, Peggy had been blessed with five children, 17 grandchildren, and was awaiting the arrival of great grandchild number 25.

Peggy’s children are: Nanette (Bob) Maxwell; Denise (Scott) Slabotsky, Pierre Guignon Jr., Aimee (Mark) Larrabee, John (Jerri) Guignon;

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Pierre, her grandson Spencer Wood, and three sisters, Pat Storm, Betty Trave and Joan Quinly.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Labor Day, Monday September 7,  at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church at 1001 East 52nd Street (52nd and Troost), Kansas City. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
