Florence Helen Grindinger Faltermeier went to be with the Lord on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2013. She was born in an apartment above her father’s grocery store at the corner of 26th and Belleview in Kansas City, Mo., on Oct. 4, 1918. Two months later her mother passed away during the great Flu pandemic of 1918, leaving her father with four small children. She spent the next 11 years being raised in the home of her paternal grandparents, who lived a few houses away from her family’s residence. The time she spent with her grandparents and three aunties were always precious memories to her. At age 11, her grandmother passed away and Florence rejoined her family which grew to eight children. Florence met the love of her life, Bob Faltermeier, when she was 15. She graduated from Redemptorist High School on June 12, 1936. Bob and Florence were married on April 26, 1938, at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. They raised one daughter and three sons. Moving from Kansas City to Phoenix, Ariz., in 1960 afforded them many wonderful trips exploring the southwest in their Jeep. Bob’s employment took them to San Francisco in 1965, where they explored another beautiful part of the country. They returned to Arizona in 1972, settling in Sun City. Their golden years were rich and wonderful, filled with travel in and out of the country, and frequent trips to visit their children, grandchildren and friends. Florence was an avid golfer and on two occasions made holes in one during league play. She loved Bingo and played every opportunity she could. Florence and Bob were married for 66 years. Florence moved back to Kansas City in 2005. She is survived by her four children, Mary Jo Ashworth (Bill), Bob Faltermeier (Sandy), Jim Faltermeier and Michael Faltermeier(Cindy), 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and two sisters, Marjorie Stevens and Rosemary Weber. She will be remembered as a soft spoken, loving mother who tirelessly worked to provide a home full of loving memories for her family. The family wishes to thank the wonderful people of The Manor at Grace Gardens Assisted Living Community and Catholic Community Hospice for their boundless and loving care. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church with a Mass to follow at 10:30 a.m. The church is located at 14201 Nall Ave., Leawood, Kan. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Catholic Community Hospice – Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas, 9740 W. 87th St., Overland Park, KS 66212.
