JACK MURTA
Jack Murta died Sunday, July 8, 2012. Born in Philadelphia, PA, in 1934, Jack was the youngest of Frank and Sarah Murta’s six children. His brothers Raymond, Joe and Paul, and sisters Doris and Mary predeceased him. He was well educated by the Christian Brothers who only rarely threw textbooks at his head to get his attention away from his bookmaking. As a young man, Jack joined the Air Force and served during the Korean War. He was a life member of the VFWand a member of Group 1 for 43 years. Jack spent most of his career in foodservice equipment sales in Omaha, St. Louis (where he was proud to be known as the House Goy) and Kansas City. At the same time, he started many other businesses, including a barbeque business and a booth manufacturing firm. Best known for his generosity of spirit, ready hand of friendship and ever- present smile, Jack is survived by Landa Williams, his wife of 29 years; his children, Bryon, Sean, Kevin, Michaela, Tom, John and Kelly; his grandchildren Corey, Elizabeth, Anna, Melissa, Tim, Jacqueline, Natalie, Lane, Brianna, Jesse, Zach, Christian and Taliyah; and a host of extended family and dear friends. He will be remembered by them all for his optimism, his easy way, and world-class laugh. Anybody who knew Jack was a better person for it. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 13, at 11 a.m. at Broadway United Methodist Church, 406 W. 74th Street, Kansas City, MO 64114.
