Mick Tyler Frederes, 22, formerly of Overland Park, KS, passed away Saturday, August 17, 2013 as a result of an automobile accident. Tyler was born June 28, 1991 in Kansas City, MO. He was a 2009 graduate of Blue Valley West High School, Overland Park, KS and was employed at Title Boxing Club West Omaha, NE as General Manager.
Tyler came into the world as a miracle baby, weighing only 4 pounds. His tenacity to survive set the groundwork for the man he would later become. He was passionate about sports since he was a 6-year-old riding sheep in the rodeo. At age 7, he began a zealous hockey career that would take him all over the country and Canada. Tyler played locally with premiere traveling teams and Blue Valley West’s High School team before playing junior hockey for the Boston, MA Salem Ice Dogs and Hudson Valley Community College team in Albany, New York. Tyler was always known as easy going off the ice but a fierce competitor inside the rink. He enjoyed being the ambassador of the grinder role, could pass and shoot and was never afraid to “drop the gloves.” Coaches and players respected Tyler’s hard work ethic, tenacity and leadership.
Tyler never met a stranger and made friends very easily. He had an extensive group of friends and large family who are supporting each other during this time of tremendous loss. He loved and is loved so deeply by his family who are immensely proud of his accomplishments. We are comforted knowing Tyler had come into his own, was incredibly happy, and is still playing a game of hockey with the best.
He is survived by his parents Becky and Larry Nichols, and Mick and Debby Frederes, as well as siblings Jordan Frederes, Daniel Nichols, Anthony Arton, Alan Pickell and Sarah Pickell. He is also survived by his grandparents Thomas and Jacqueline Horner, and Jerry and Sharon Frederes, and Betty and Hank Alberg. Aunts, uncles and cousins include Tom and Shelly Horner, T.J., Justin and Jake Horner; Gus and Beth Horner, Christopher and Meg Horner; Brock and Barb Horner, Brock D. Horner, Kate, David and Andrew Barth; Deb and Rick Williamson, Makenzie and Jackson Adriano; Nancy and Mark Kenyon, Katy, Lauren, and Eleanor Kenyon; Johnny and Nichelle Nichols, Joelle and Everett; Sarah Nichols; Jeff and Pam Frederes, A.J. and Max; Jerry and Kristy Frederes, Jackson and Tomi; Joe and Jill Frederes, Andrew and Taylor Shelman; Jon and Laura Frederes, Kaylee, Bailey and J.C.
