WILLIAM A. LATZ
William (Bill) A. Latz passed away June 9, 2012, surrounded by his family after a two year struggle with cancer. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Bernice Latz, his brother, Bob and sister, Ginny Wilkerson. Bill was a graduate of Bishop Hogan High School where he was class president and a Catholic League All-Star in basketball. He earned his college degree in business administration at St. Benedict’s College. He then served in the U.S. Marines Corps during the Korean War. The next 38 years were spent in the insurance business where he retired as a partner of the Thomas McGee & Sons Insurance Agency. Bill was one of the original officers of the Westwood Foundation and also served as a City Councilman in Westwood, Kan. Being one of the original members of the Woodside Racquet Club he spent many an hour on the tennis court but more leisure time at Table Rock Lake where he and his brother shared a home and were the best fishing partners-mostly trolling and casting for his favorite fish, the crappie. Surviving are his loving wife and gin rummy opponent, Peggy, his sons, Bill (Alecia) of Ozark, Mo., and Jeff (Amy) of Kearney, Mo., his daughters, Janet McManus (Phil), Jane Holek (Tom), Overland Park, Kan., and Gigi Knox (Jim) of St. Louis, Mo., 11 grandchildren and one great-grandson. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Benedict’s Abbey, Atchison, Kan. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Roeland Park, Kan., with a Rosary to follow. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 14, at St. Agnes Church. Assistance by Funeral Advocates LLC.
