WILLIAM OLIVER PLAYER
William Oliver Player, Lenexa, KS, 70, passed away March 30, 2012. Funeral services will be held at Presbyterian Church of Stanley, 14895 Antioch Road, Overland Park, KS, on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at 2 p.m. The family will receive visitors at a one-hour visitation beginning at 1 p.m., as well as during a reception immediately following the funeral service. Memorial contributions can be made on behalf of the family to Garden Terrace of Overland Park or The Heart of America Alzheimer’s Association . William was born August 31, 1941, in Chattanooga, TN, son of Isabell and Oliver Player. William attended the Chattanooga public school system, graduating from Howard High School before going on to receive his undergraduate degree from Tennessee State University and a Master’s degree in Engineering from the University of Missouri at Rolla. For more than 35 years William enjoyed his trade as a Civil Engineer for the Corps of Engineers and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Outside of his fondness for golf and spending much of his free time with family and friends, he served on multiple boards, including Mazuma Credit Union and SAVE Inc. He also spent time volunteering with Junior Achievement and was a devoted member of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church. William will be remembered as a good man, great friend, and adored husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, Isabell and Oliver; and a sister, Konstance Player. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Imogene, of Lenexa; sons, William Andre (Michele) Player, of Snoqualmie, WA, and Charles Jason Player, of Riverside, CA; sisters: Carolyn Pollard (Gary), of Seattle, WA, Mary Slaughter (John), of Kennewick, WA, Olivia Wilson (Tony), of Las Vegas, NV, Ernestine Dunton, of Chattanooga, and Evelyn Lovelady, of Chattanooga; brother, James Player (Tina), of Chattanooga; mother-in-law, Mamie Leslie, of Kansas City, KS; brother-in-law, Frank Leslie (Tonya), of Montclair, NJ; two granddaughters, Devon and Simone Player; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
