Arnold Henry Bock of Lenexa, KS passed away peacefully on March 13, 2015. Arnold was born in Hermann, MO on November 14, 1923. He attended the University of Missouri and graduated with honors (Tau Beta Pi, Chi Epsilon and Pi Mu Epsilon) with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He also earned a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis and a Master of Business Administration from Saint Louis University. Arnold served in the army from 1948 to 1952 assigned to ballistic missile research primarily at White Sands Proving Grounds in New Mexico. Following that, Arnold spent 32 years as a Structural Engineer for Portland Cement Association where he had his hands in such projects as Busch Stadium in St. Louis and the St. Louis Arch.
After he retired in 1987, Arnold taught at Missouri Western State University and the University of Kansas.
On April 18, 1964, Arnold married Billie June Garrison and shortly thereafter moved to Lake Quivira, KS. Arnold was active in the Lake Quivira Boy Scout Troop and Shawnee Soccer Club with his two sons during their youth. He was also a volunteer with the Lake Quivira Fire Department for 12 years. Arnold was an avid golfer throughout his time at the lake. If he wasn’t golfing, he was either running or walking around the lake with their black lab, Sam.
Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, Karl and Hilda Mueller Bock; sister, Marie Sherman; brother-in-law, Howard Sherman; and nephew Terry Sherman. He is survived by his ex-wife Billie, two sons, Edward (Nancy) and Daniel (Sharon); grandchildren, Austin, David and Melanie; and niece Randee Lodes.
A private service will be held at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery. Assistance by Funeral Advocates, LLC.
I took care of Arnold for approximately 6 months and he was very near and dear to me. May he currently be enjoying his customed made mansion in the sky engineered just for him. We all love you Arnold!!!!!!!
