In loving memory of Barbara Jean Walker Harness.  Born August 15, 1940, near Carrollton, MO.  Died January 19, 2024, in Lee’s Summit, MO, at the age of 83.

She grew up on a farm near Tina, MO and attended Bogard High School.  After graduating, she moved to Kansas City, and worked as a secretary at EBE.

Barbara married Ronald Harness on June 6, 1959, and she moved to Lee’s Summit, MO in the early 1960’s.  She lived the duration of her life there, raising her family, holding several different jobs, before and after retirement, and serving the Lee’s Summit Community.

She was an active member of the Our Lady of Presentation Catholic Church where she served the school and church parish.

As a child growing up on a farm, Barbara loved riding her horse, but farm chores, not so much.  She loved playing basketball, and was on her high school team.  She enjoyed bowling and participated on the Presentation PTA school league for many years.  She liked to sew, cook, bake, and was known to many of her friends as “The Cake Lady”.  Barbara spent much of her free time baking and decorating cakes for friends and the community, for just about any special occasion.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Dale Walker and Clara Spotts Walker.

She is survived by her brother Joseph (J.D.) Walker – her four children:  Ronda Harness/Howard Bascom, Annette Baker/Scott, Arnold Harness/Marty and Melissa Sangis/Larry.  Grandchildren:  Heather Daarud/Matthew, Shelby Schwagerman, Ryan Carling, and Nicholas Frank Sangis.  Great Grandchildren:  Lydia Close, and Caden Daarud. Also, numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

The service will be held on Friday, February 9, 2024, at Our Lady of Presentation Catholic Church.  The Visitation will start at 10:00 a.m., in the Gathering Room.  Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Our Lady of Presentation Catholic Church, 130 NW Murray Road, Lee’s Summit, MO  64081.
