Bertha Inola Alexander, age 79, was born in Coal Hill, AR., deceased January 5, 2021.
Bertha (Bert) grew up in Ozark, Arkansas. She attended the local High School and was the first Black student to receive a diploma. This accomplishment inspired her to pursue a nursing career. She attended nursing school in Topeka, KS and earned an LPN certification. Her love for learning landed many other notable accomplishments which included an Associates of Nursing Degree (RN), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), served as Director of Nursing and received numerous other accolades to manifest her skill and dedication. She continued her passion of working in Labor and Delivery at Research Hospital in Kansas City, MO until her retirement.
Bert was preceded in death by her parents, Riley and Othella West, a brother Lloydis (Sarge) West, two sons Christopher Joseph Daniels and Vernon Daniels and two granddaughters Aubrey Daniels and Ashley Daniels. She is survived by three brothers and five sisters, two sons Terrence Daniels and Dennis (wife Lisa) Daniels and a daughter, Natalie (Jae) Daniels, 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bert was a devout servant in the Body of Christ (the church of Christ). When she relocated to a different city, she would find a congregation to bless by working and serving according to her calling.
Her faith and love for Christ and her family was immeasurable and unshakable. She was happiest when she was surrounded by her family – especially her grands, who she called her “littles” and they lovingly called her “Gigi” and grand mama.” Being on any fishing bank or lake was a dream come true, always searching for “the big one,” which came to fruition on her birthday in 2020 when she caught a 13lb catfish.
Bert was loving, giving, and had an exceptional sense of humor. She greeted everyone with a genuine smile. Those she met were easily befriended.
A memorial service will be held in the future.

Bertha Alexander was a beautiful woman inside and out. Although I hadn’t seen her for several years, I felt like I had been with her recently. I resonated with her comments on Facebook, especially those about her family and her faith. She was truly a godly woman.

She was always there for everyone, beautiful inside out. She helped me through some really tough times in my life. I was blessed to be part of the family through her son Vernon Daniels and our son Joshua Daniels. I’ll never forget when I lost my mom and she said I know I’m not your mom but you are like a daughter to me, for this I will always be grateful.
