Billie June (Garrison) Bock of Lenexa, formerly of Lake Quivira, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 7, 2016, after battling complications from pneumonia.
Billie was born in St. Louis, MO, on November 3, 1931. She grew up on a farm outside of Lee Center, IL and was one of eleven students in her high school graduation class. After high school, Billie played professional women’s baseball with the Peoria Redwings in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. After attending Northern Illinois State Teacher’s College, she enjoyed a career at Gardner Advertising in St. Louis. Through a church connection in St. Louis, she met Arnold Henry Bock. They married on April 18, 1964, and shortly thereafter had two sons. In 1969, they moved to Lake Quivira, KS.
Billie was involved in many activities with her sons as they grew up. She was active in the Lake Quivira Boy Scout Troop as a Den Mother. She was both a soccer and hockey mom and always an enthusiastic and vocal supporter of her boys. She coached Little League baseball for many years including teams with and without her sons. She also coached youth basketball and was a volunteer with Quivira Junior Golf. As the boys grew older, Billie worked at Kenneth Smith Golf Company for many years and then America West Airlines. She loved to play golf and fish at Lake Quivira and enjoyed playing bridge and other card games, which suited her competitive nature. She was an avid fan of Missouri Tigers basketball and KC Royals baseball. She loved being a grandma and was her grandchildren’s biggest supporter. Billie had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed playing pranks on friends, who also liked to reciprocate. She enjoyed a good laugh and had a smile to match. Although she moved to Lakeview Village in 2004, she always considered Lake Quivira home.
Billie was preceded in death by her former husband, Arnold; parents, Clarence and Juanita Garrison; and her brothers Freddie and Tom. She is survived by her two sons: Edward (Nancy) of Burnsville, MN, and Daniel (Sharon) of Lenexa, KS; grandchildren, Austin, David and Melanie; sisters, Dorris Cantrell and Jane Soukup; brother, Clarence Garrison (Sharon), sister-in-law Barbara Garrison, and many other family members and friends.
We appreciate the wonderful, loving care Billie received from all the staff at Lakeview Village Care Center, and the support from Kindred Hospice. A celebration of life service will be held November 26, 2016 at Lakeview Village, 9100 Park, Lenexa, KS, in the Heritage Activity Center at 1:00 pm followed by a reception.
