Dorothy “Deedee” Lucille Vickrey Watson passed away peacefully on her birthday, Jan 28, 2017.
She was born in Kansas City on Jan. 28, 1932 and was a lifetime resident except for a few years when she taught school in Guam and was a State Social Caseworker in Bozeman, Montana. During her lifetime, she was very active in the Kansas City Young Matrons, Heart of America Riding Club, Saddle & Sirloin Club and supported the Nelson Art Gallery and Children’s Mercy Hospital.
Dorothy loved to travel and was fortunate enough to have traveled the world reaching everywhere she dreamed of going except to Tibet. She also loved her KU Jayhawks and Kansas City Chiefs and was cheering them on right up to the end. Dorothy was very social and loved pending time with her family and many friends. She decided it wasn’t fair for everyone to get together after her death and reminisce about her life since she would not be there to enjoy their company. So, she held a Celebration of Life party a few years ago, and had the time of her life! Dorothy was never one to miss out on a great party.
She is survived by her daughter Stephanie McCurdy (Ed), son Christopher Watson (Jan), four grandchildren, Julia Heinrichs (Brandon), Tom Watson (Colleen), Adrian Torres (Emil) and Matthew Torres, and 2 great-grandchildren, Evan and Will.
A private gathering will be held at a later date for the family. We want to send a special thank you to Catholic Charities Hospice, especially Andrea. The family requests no flowers and asks instead that donations be made in her name to the American Cancer Society or Wayside Waifs.
On the night of her death, we saw a shooting star in the night sky which we felt was her way of saying she had arrived safely.
