Eleanor Lucille (Parsons) Parker, 95, of Overland Park, Kansas, died peacefully Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at Brookdale Assisted Living in Overland Park.
Eleanor was born March 9, 1921, in Sweet Springs, Missouri. She grew up there with her sister, Mary Edith (Parsons) Robins, and brother, Marshall Clay Parsons, both of whom live in their childhood hometown. She graduated in 1939 from Sweet Springs High School, then attended Central Methodist University.
On March 7, 1942, she married Dallas Henry Parker in the living room of the house where she was born. Together for more than 70 years, Eleanor and Dallas experienced a wonderful and long life together, which the Lord blessed. Early in their marriage, they moved often. They enjoyed living in San Francisco, California; Litchfield, Illinois; Wichita, Kansas; St. Louis, Missouri; and Sweet Springs, Missouri, before settling in the Kansas City area in 1948 to raise their two children, Patricia and Marshall. Eleanor excelled as a homemaker and Mom. She was a second Mom for many neighborhood kids, who often entered her house without much thought of knocking and were greeted with impromptu meals and desserts. She loved to garden, cook, sew and entertain guests and was happiest when surrounded by a grateful circle of family and friends. She possessed a keen wit and was quick to laugh. She will be remembered as very kind, caring, generous and warm. She was active in Garden Club and PEO and was an avid Kansas City Royals fan.
Eleanor will be greatly missed. Dallas preceded her in death; surviving are daughter Patricia (Parker) Cooper and her husband, David Cooper, of Daytona Beach, Florida, and son Marshall Parker and his wife, Suze Parker, of Overland Park, Kansas. Eleanor is also fondly remembered and loved by three grandchildren, David Schlosser and his wife, Anne Schlosser, of St. Louis, Missouri, and Laura and Elaina Parker of Overland Park, Kansas.
