Emma Josephine Leslie Meyer
Emma Josephine Leslie Meyer left this earth peacefully for her eternal home on June 20, 2019 at age 99 years, 4 ½ months .
She was born January 11, 1920 in Canton Mo. and was the fifth of six children born to David Alexander and Bertha Turner Leslie of Williamstown Mo. She graduated from Williamstown High School and graduated from Northeast Missouri StateCollege (Truman University) in 1943 majoring in Home Economics.
After graduation, she moved to New Haven Michigan to work as a clerk in the ordinance department at Selfridge Air National Guard Base from 1943-1945. She worked at Stix, Baer and Fuller in the Art & Needle working Dept. and worked for the Illinois Power in Edwardsville and Granite City for 38 years doing everything from teaching cooking programs for children,and adults to conducting Energy Conservation audits climbing in to people’s attics. Jo used the first microwave and dishwasher as part of a General Electric kitchen design program.
Jo married Charles A. Meyer in January 29, 1966 in St. Louis. They were married for 39 years at the time of Charlie’s death in May 2, 2005
She volunteered on various boards in Granite City Area, was selected Woman of the Year, and was a member of the Women’s Division of the Chamber of Commerce. She also worked with Charlie while he was an advisor James Stuart of the Order of DeMolay. She was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist.
She is survived by 15 nieces and nephews, many grand and great grand nieces and nephews.
