Fred G. Erker, age 96, Wellington, Kansas, passed away on May 11th,2019 in Overland Park, Kansas. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Fred was born on December 23nd, 1922 in their farmhouse at Ost, Kansas.
Fred was married to Mary Louise Clark on November 22,1951 in Winfield, Kansas. While living on the farm Fred And Mary raised seven children. Lois (Erker)and Gary Elliot of, Springfield, Virginia, Rita (Erker) and Robert Thackery of Overland Park, Kansas, Fred and LeAnne Erker of Galena, Missouri. Mike and Kim Erker of Kettering, Ohio. Caroline (Erker)and Dr. Paul Oltjenbruns of Bloomfield, Nebraska, John and Cheri Erker of Galena, Missouri. Chris Erker of Manhattan, Kansas. He is the grandfather to 16 and the great grandfather to 6.
Fred was devoted to his family.
He has been a member of St. Anthony’s parish in Wellington since 1930. He helped build the current church in Wellington. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and held various offices through the years. He was a firm believer in donating blood, giving over 40 gallons during his lifetime.
Fred loved to play games of any variety from baseball, horseshoes, bowling, or shooting basketballs on the goal he MADE for the family. He had a passion for playing cards, or I should say PITCH. The last few years he would say, at least I can still play pitch, which he enjoyed until last week.
He will be remembered with fondness and missed by many who knew him.
Memorials may be made to Knights of Columbus, Alzheimer’s Association, or Wellington County Food Bank.
Services will be held at Saint Anthony’s Catholic church, Tuesday May 14th. Rosery will begin at 10:00 a.m., funeral services will immediately follow.
