Frederick George Harvey, Jr., 84, passed away on October 3, 2024. He is survived by his loving children, Diane (Terry) Gallagher and the Honorable Fred (Krystle Teufer) Harvey, and grandchildren, Jillian and Mary Kate Gallagher and Freddie, Joe, Alice and Eleanor Harvey. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Alice Roma Harvey, granddaughter Elizabeth Gallagher, siblings Edward Harvey and Patricia Harvey Bewak,and parents, Ann Harvey Muylaert and Frederick George Harvey, Sr.

Fred was born on July 30, 1940, and graduated from St. Philip Neri High School in Detroit in 1958 where he played football. He married Alice Roma on October 7, 1966, and they raised their children in East Detroit, Michigan, while he enjoyed a long career at Alexander Hamilton Life Insurance Company where he made many dear friends, and he and Alice traveled the world. After losing Alice in 1999, he retired and then relocated in 2011 to Kansas City to be closer to his granddaughters. He spent a decade driving them to school and dance classes while always making time to watch his grandsons play sports and celebrate all his grandchildren’s milestones. A lifelong Detroit Lions fan, he enjoyed cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs over the past several years.

Funeral services with be Saturday, October 19, at Holy Innocents – St. Barnabas Catholic Community, 16359 Frazho Road, Roseville, MI 48066, with visitation at 9:30 am and Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Internment will immediately follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Detroit.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorial donations to the Gallagher Family Endowment at Children’s Mercy https://support.childrensmercy.org/fredharvey

Sad to hear of Fred’s passing. He was a dear friend, always fun to hear his latest joke and fun to talk to. Loved him dearly. So many fond memories of him & dear Alice.
