Irving N. Johnson, 83, of Overland Park, KS was born on July 4, 1936 in Grand Island, NE and passed away on April 21, 2020 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. He was the only child of Irving N. Johnson, Sr and Helen Robb Johnson, who preceded him in death. Irv is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Sharon Johnson; his daughter Barbara Bodenhamer and her husband, Jay; his son Kris Johnson and his wife Glenda; his six grandchildren Joshua Bodenhamer, Jonathan Bodenhamer, Kara Bodenhamer, Philip Johnson and wife Leah, Andrew Johnson, Jeffrey Johnson and wife Ashley, and great grandchildren Ava Johnson, Nora Johnson, Josiah Johnson, and Everlee Johnson.

Irv grew up in Broken Bow, NE and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1954. He graduated from Hastings College in Hastings, NE in 1960 with a BS in Business Administration. After college, Irv moved with his wife and children to Kansas City and began practicing accounting. Irv had a love of all sports. He was a lifelong Nebraska Cornhusker, KC Royals, and KC Chiefs fan. He coached little league baseball and was an avid golfer. He also enjoyed traveling with family and friends and couldn’t pass up an opportunity to sit by a stream, river or any body of water for hours just soaking up the scenery.

His children and grandchildren remember that he faithfully attended their school activities, band concerts, and games. Irv thoroughly loved being a dad and granddad.

The Johnsons lived in South Kansas City for many years, where they were long-time members of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. He served as treasurer of the church, sang in the choir, and sponsored the youth groups.

After moving to Overland Park, Irv and Sharon became charter members of The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, KS. There, Irv served on committees, sang in the Chancel Choir, and attended Morning Star Adult Education Class.

Due to the current social restrictions, Irv’s Celebration of Life and Inurnment will take place at a later date at the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection. Please check cathyb6.sg-host.comfor updated information regarding service time and memorial designations.
