Jane Bird Lohse, 93, of Prairie Village, Kansas died Tuesday, February 11, 2014.

She was born May 11, 1920 in Tampa, Florida to the late Walter Meredith Bird and Hortensia Lopez Bird.  She graduated from Scottsbluff High School in Scottsbluff, Nebraska in 1938, and the University of Nebraska in 1942 with a degree in business administration.  She served as a captain in the Women’s Army Corp from October 1942 to February 1946 during World War II, where she was assigned to the Headquarters Army Service Forces’ Control Division in Washington, D. C.  She was a member of Village Presbyterian Church, an alumnae of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, and a member of more than thirty genealogy organizations including Daughters of the American Revolution, National Society Sons and Daughters of Pilgrims, Colonial Daughters of the Seventeenth Century, Daughters of Colonial Wars, Magna Charta Dames, Jamestowne Society, Hereditary Order of the First Families of Massachusetts, Colonial Dames of America, and Continental Society Daughters of Indian Wars.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Robert Roy Lohse, Sr. of Prairie Village, Kansas; son Dr. Robert R. Lohse, Jr. and wife Kathy of Topeka, Kansas; son William Bird Lohse and wife Cindy of Fort Smith, Arkansas; grandson Dr. Matthew Bird Lohse and wife Dr. Sarah Foss of San Francisco, California; granddaughter Dr. Alison Lohse Hughes and husband Jesse Hughes of Benton, Arkansas; granddaughter Jane Lauren Lohse of New York City, New York; granddaughter Catherine Paige Lohse of Lawrence, Kansas;  grandson Robert R. Lohse, III of New York City, New York; brother Walter M. Bird, Jr.; and numerous  nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Mary Wheeler.

A memorial service with a reception immediately following will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 7, 2014 at Village Presbyterian Church in Prairie Village, Kansas.  Private interment will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
