Janis Marie Hugunin, 82, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on September 22, 2021 at St. Luke’s South hospital. She was born August 12, 1939 in Henrietta, Missouri to Clarence and Marjorie Lile. She was the middle daughter of 3 children, she had 2 brothers. She graduated from Van Horn Highschool and attended secretarial school. She married her husband Wayne Michael Hugunin in 1967 who preceded her in death January 9, 1997. They were married just short of 30 years as their Anniversary would have been that April 8th. She took early retirement from Honeywell after 30 years of service.

She found a lot of joy watching her grandsons play school sports and watching the KC Chiefs. She liked playing bingo, and purchased an occasional lottery ticket. She enjoyed camping with her husband when they were younger and spending time fishing. Though she worked full time she always managed to make sure that dinner was served and her family sat down together to their meal. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a great personality. She liked to reminisce and tell funny stories of her youth and times with her husband. She was so smart and great with numbers and math, she kept track of things better than anyone her family knew.

They often had her hide things when they didn’t want to lose them and had faith that she was so sharp she would remember where she had put them better then they would. She will be greatly missed as she touched our lives more than she may have ever known.
She is survived by her daughter Susan Lopez (Mario), her three grandsons, Michael, Christian and Leo.

Catholic mass and visitation will be held on Thursday, Sept 30th at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church 2 E 75th Street KCMO 64114.  Visitation at 10:00 am with funeral mass following at 10:30 am. Burial to follow at Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers please consider donations in Janis’s name to St. Elizabeth Catholic School FIRE Foundation or Variety Kansas CIty, a children’s charity.
