Jeffrey Lynn Howell, 53, passed away peacefully October 2, 2016, in his Overland Park, Kan., home. Jeff was born March 31, 1963, in Kansas City, Mo. He was a graduate of Shawnee Mission East High School and worked in circulation sales for the Kansas City Star before a long and difficult struggle with mental illness and, recently, a brief battle with heart disease.
He was a kind and caring soul who loved his family and friends, but his unforgiving illness never let go until the end.
Jeff was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Oliver Howell (1976), and is survived by his mother, Patsy Sanford Howell of Overland Park; brother Tracy (Ria) Howell of Lenexa, Kan.; sister Stephanie (Walt) Tegtmeier of Leawood, Kan.; nieces Payton Howell and Bella Tegtmeier; and nephews Evan Howell and Barrett Tegtmeier.
A private memorial service will take place later in the fall in his parents’ native Mississippi, a place Jeff always held close to his heart.
Scott, Ria, and family-
I am so sorry to hear about Jeff. I will always remember him as the life of the party, so outgoing, upbeat, and gregarious. I know his illness was a struggle for him and for the whole family for many years, but I wanted you to know that I remember the other side of Jeff as well. Heartfelt sympathies-
Thanks so much Lenna. The good memories of how Jeff once was means alot. Hope to see you guys soon.
I grew up with Jeff and lived down the street from him. He was so much fun and such a great guy. That combination was unbeatable. I can think of endless stories of the fun we used to have. Such a great guy. I have many fond memories of him.
I want to express my sincerest sympathy to the Howell family because of losing Jeff way too soon in death. When our loved ones fall asleep in death, the pain and grief seems unbearable. Our loving God Jehovah (Psalms 83:18) understands how we feel and he comforts us by means of his word the Bible. Psalm 34: 18 tells us: “Jehovah is close to the brokenhearted; He saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Jehovah invites you to throw all your burdens on him and he will sustain you in your time of grief. None of us are guaranteed tomorrow, but we are all guaranteed a resurrection. (John 5:28, John 6:40 and John 11:25) For more comforting scriptures please visit: http://bit.ly/1K38EFt. It has given me hope, strengthened my faith and helped me find the answer to Why? I know it will do the same for you. Again, the family is in my prayers and I offer my heartfelt condolences.
