In the presence of her family and an angel from hospice, Joanne Culp Cox, 78 of Shawnee,Ks, passed away peacefully on Feb 4th, 2015.
Joanne was born December 1, 1936 in Kansas City, Kansas to Lloyd and Helen Cotton Culp. Joanne was raised in Bemidji, MN and later returned to Kansas City. In KC, she met the love of her life, Kenneth Cox. They were married on June 19th, 1960 and later had two children, daughter Kristin and son Kyle.
Known affectionately by her family as JoJo, she had a special presence that immediately attracted people to her. She knew very few strangers, easily made friends and had a great ability to bring people together. Her greatest accomplishments were in the loving home that she created, the unrelenting support of her husband and family, and the values she instilled in her family that will be passed on for generations. No matter the role that she played; lady, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother or friend…JoJo set a tremendous example for our family to follow.
Joanne was preceded in death by her grandson, Ryan Christopher Cox. She is survived by her adoring husband of 54 years, Kenneth R. Cox. Also surviving are her children Kristin and Wayne Mertel of Shawnee, KS, Kyle and Jan Cox of Overland Park, KS, grandchildren, Bradley and Stephanie Mertel, Tyler Mertel, Megan Cox and Jared Cox and great grandson, Jay Duncan Mertel.
On Tuesday, February 10, 2015 there will be a visitation at 1:00pm at Village Presbyterian Church 6641 Mission Rd, Prairie Village, KS with a memorial service to start at 3:00pm. Following the service there will be a reception at the church. Joanne will be interred prior to services. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Village Presbyterian Church and/or Continua Hospice Care of Kansas City.
The family is especially grateful for the loving and compassionate care provided by Continua Hospice Care. They are amazing people who provide aid and comfort to the families they serve.
You will be greatly missed JoJo…but always remembered! Arr: Signature Funerals 8019 State Line Rd. KCMO 64114 816-214-5174 www.cathyb6.sg-host.com
