Joanne Kathyrn Schwartz, 80, of Prairie Village, passed away peacefully November 20, from stroke-related complications. She was born March 22, 1936, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Floyd and Margaret (Barnes) Williams. Shc married Edward Reid Schwartz on November 26, 1956.
Joanne attended Sacred Heart Grade School, Redemptorist High School, and the College of St. Teresa. As a mother of two sons, she relished her role as chief cookie baker, nurse, den mother and fan club president for both. She later put her finely honed skills to work for the loves of her life, her two grand daughters.
Joanne loved tennis, rug hooking, needle point, cross stitch, cooking, and gardening. She was an avid reader, a Jayhawk and Royals fan, and loved American history and all things colonial. She volunteered in many roles at St Ann Catholic Church, as well as the St Joseph Hospital Auxillary, and was an active member of Questers.
All who knew Joanne treasured her kind spirit, her sweet sense of humor, and her steadfast support and loyalty.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; her brother, John; her son, Jim; and her husband. She is survived by her son, Bill (Paddi), Leawood; and granddaughters, Ellie and Meg.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to John Dunlap, M.D., and the extraordinary care provided by the nurses and therapists at Menorah and Research Hospitals.
A Visitation and Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, November 25, 2016 at St Ann Catholic Church, 7140 Mission Rd. Prairie Village, Kansas, with the Visitation beginning at 10 a.m, and Mass at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions for Joanne may be made to the St Ann Church Endowment, where Joanne was a member for over 50 years. Paddi, I am so sorry to learn of Bill’s mother’s passing. We are visiting Dennis’ parents for Thanksgiving and will not be back in town in time for the services. Please know that I am keeping your family in my thoughts and prayers.
