Overland Park, Kansas – John C. Kittell, Jr., 73, passed away at
home on February 10, 2021. A private memorial service will
be held at Hillcrest Christian Church in Overland Park, Kansas,
on February 20, 2021, at 2:00pm. Friends can view the live
service by following a link on the church’s website
(www.hcckc.org). In lieu of flowers, the family requests
donations be made to either Hillcrest Christian Church or the
American Kidney Fund (www.kidneyfund.org).
John was born in Kansas City, Missouri on November 15, 1947,
and lived in the area for his whole life. John worked in the
transportation industry for many years before retiring. He was
an avid coin collector, a hobby he had since childhood. He had
an affinity for restoring and showing classic cars, hunting, and
yard work, and enjoyed sharing his knowledge of these
hobbies with his family and friends. He was an expressive
storyteller and always had a joke or anecdote for any situation.
He was proud of his family and a devoted husband, father, and
grandfather.
John was preceded in death by his sisters, Diane Neuhaus and
Nancy Andula, and his son, John “Trae” Kittell. He is survived
by his wife, Karen Kittell; son Jeff Kittell and his wife, Staci;
daughter Kali (Kittell) Allee and her husband, Jeff; Shondra
McLaughlin (widow of Trae); 10 grandchildren and 4 great-
grandchildren.
