John Timothy Shearman, 51, was born and raised in Omaha, NE. From his neighborhood and attending Holy Cross grade school and Gross Catholic High School, he forged friendships that have been and will continue to be life long. His signature style for uncoordinated clothes is one of his many endearing legacies.
With his construction skills he created the home in Kansas City that he shared with his wife Maureen (Mulcahey). They were together for 24 years and finally married June 10, 2017 on the backyard deck they built together. After celebrating their one year anniversary with a vow renewal on Sunday, June 10, 2018, he passed away peacefully and in her arms at their home.
In heaven, he joins his parents, Frank and Margaret (Peg) Shearman, brothers Mike, Pat, and Dan, and their dog Brandy (she’s a fine girl). At home, he leaves Maureen (Mo, Momo, Pretty), and their dogs Maggie (wake up Maggie) and Ginger (not Mary Ann). He leaves behind his son, whom he loved deeply, John Sopcich of Omaha, NE. Also sisters Judy Shearman, Joann O’Brien (John), Mary Shada (George), Katie Shearman, brother Steve, and many nieces and nephews. In-laws are Anne Mulcahey, Erin Oliphant (Frank), Kathleen DeKraai (Brad), Amy Cramer (Chuck), Molly Curry, Jimmy Mulcahey (Shannan), Marianne Bell (Dan) and their families.
His most endearing quality, enjoyed by all who know him, was his ability to make people laugh…it was what captured Mo’s heart when they met.
We want to extend our indescribable gratitude to his hospice nurse Shirley, who is truly an angel. The other nurses and staff from KC Hospice who assisted in his care are deeply appreciated. Contributions to KC Hospice and Palliative care in his memory are appreciated.
Represented by Star Trek and Star Wars Pez dispensers are honorary pall bearers John O’Brien (Data), Mike Levengood (Worf), Tony Trevino (Jean-Luc Picard), Mark O’Kane (Wookiee), Mike Olson (Starship Enterprise), Mike Neneman (Geordi La Forge), EJ Braun (William T. Riker), Mike McKernan (Han Solo), Jim Carroll (Locutus), and Jim Nielsen (BB-8)…Yes, this was John’s idea!!
The family welcomes visitors to the Villas of Leawood Clubhouse, 2021 W. 139th St. (139th and State Line Rd), Leawood, KS 66224 on Saturday, June 16th from 1-4pm.
A prayer service will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 4810 Woolworth Ave, Omaha, NE, on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 3pm. Following that there will be a happy hour celebration of John in the lower level of Paddy McGowan’s. Snackies will be served.
Sherm will be extremely missed in his “office” AKA our garage where we had a FEW beers and loads of laughs.

Rest In Peace my brother. Our friendship was one of a kind and one of the things I am most proud of. The laughter and conversations I will hold dear and never forget. You were truly one of a kind!
Love you MoMo.
I’m so sorry for your loss. The world is definitely less bright. I can see him so clearly in my mind, all of those crazy, funny things he did and said. Countless memories from Holy Cross days. Everyone of them makes me laugh. I’ll truly cherish the pencil lead that is still lodged in my knee. XOXO
