John Walker White
July 24, 1926 – June 23, 2023

John White, son of Glen and Mildred White, passed away peacefully on the evening of June 23rd surrounded by his loved ones.

John grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and graduated from Southeast High School. At the age of 18 he enlisted into the army infantry where he served in the Philippine Island combat zone (Mindanao Island). He was then transferred to the Medical Corp, 41st division in Japan where he served for 18 months before being discharged as a Tech 4 Sergeant.

On his return from overseas, he met the love of his life, Lucille Thom. They were married on October 6th, 1950. He started his career with the Kansas City Star as the youngest advertising sales executive on the staff. With his many years of sales success, he was promoted to Assistant Circulation Director and later to Circulation Director.

In retirement, John and his wife Lucille traveled extensively. He particularly enjoyed serving the needy by volunteering at St. Mary’s Food Kitchen. Above all else, his devotion was his family. He attended numerous sporting, dance, and extracurricular activities of his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

As a proud resident of Prairie Village, he was an avid Jayhawks, Chiefs and Royals fan. He had a lifelong passion for the game of golf, the only thing he never perfected.

John is survived by his wife of 73 years Lucille.  Children Glen (Jeanne) White, Brian White, Alan (Jean) White, Nancy (Ron) Johnson, Craig White, 10 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, a gift to St. Ann’s Endowment would be greatly appreciated.
