Joseph A. Tanyi “Joe” of Overland Park, Kansas passed away on Friday, September 2, 2022 in Kansas City, MO at the age of 83.  He was born in Detroit Michigan to Joseph and Bernice Tanyi.  After moving to Los Angeles in 1965 he met Karen and they were married in 1966.

He spent his career as a Quality Engineer in the aerospace fastener industry.

As a young boy he loved being outside, especially fishing.  As an adult he took up fly fishing and was an active member of the Long Beach Casting Club.  He dedicated years to the organization teaching fly casting and fly tying  classes as well as serving as President.  Through the club he began working with the Project Healing Waters program sharing his passion for the sport with wounded Veterans through the VA hospital.

He loved his children, rarely missing a game or event.  His son’s interest in soccer prompted a life-long interest in the sport, first as a parent, then coach and fan of the game (regardless of the language it was being broadcast in).

Joe is survived by his loving wife Karen of Overland Park Kansas, his daughter Jeannette Vahle of Mission Hills, Kansas, son Matthew Tanyi of Orlando, Florida, son-in-law Tom Vahle, daughter-in-law Shannon Tanyi, granddaughters Katie Vahle, Amanda Vahle and Melanie Vahle.

Services will be held on 1:00, Saturday, September 10th at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Project Healing Waters:

Project Healing Waters (Please note a request that donation is for the Long Beach Casting Club program)
