Joseph Rakowski 1929-2021

Joseph (Jozef) Rakowski, 91, of Overland Park, KS, passed away peacefully at home early Friday morning, January 1, 2021 with his loving family by his side. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 64 years, Wanda (Polanica) Rakowski, his devoted daughters Krystyna Rakowski and Maria Konopka and her husband Jacek Konopka of Novi, MI, and his cherished and beloved granddaughter, Dr. Jaclyn Konopka and her husband Athanasios Taskas of New York City, NY. He is also survived by his devoted sister-in-law Teresa Kamler and her husband Fred Kamler, loving nephews and niece Edward Butrym, John Butrym and Wanda Hloba, and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was predeceased in death by his parents Adam and Maria (Kolej) Rakowski, two sisters, and niece.

Joseph was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His greatest joy and happiness was his granddaughter Jaclyn. They shared many adventures, especially their yearly trips to the Jersey shore. After his retirement, he continued to be an avid fisherman and gardener. He was known for growing different varieties of tulips and his prized white hydrangeas.

A private committal service and burial will be held on January 8th, 2021 at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Lenexa, KS.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joseph can be made to St. Jude Research Hospital or an animal rescue shelter of choice.
