Kaye passed away November 4, 2015 from complications of COPD at Kansas City Hospice House. Her son, Scott Thompson and wife Shawna, and sister Lynda Wheeler were with her as she left us while listening to Red Foley sing “Peace in the Valley”. She was born in Sealy, TX, July 15, 1943 to J.E. “Bud” Eatherly and Ruth Ray Eatherly. The family moved to Midland, TX in 1953 where she graduated from Midland High School, Class of 1961.
She attended North Texas for two years and returned to Midland to work. She received a degree in Respiratory Therapy from Odessa College and loved being a therapist. She worked in Midland, Humble and Sweetwater before returning to Midland in 1989 to take care of her Mom and Dad. In 1991 she joined AA. It was a valued life change for her. In March of 1993, she moved to Overland Park, KS to be with her sister, Lynda. She became active in AA and DRA (Dual Recovery Anonymous) and made many wonderful friends.
She will be remembered for her love of animals, birds and all living things. She loved to garden and filled her yard with native plants and flowers. Her creativity was expressed in her paintings and love of country music.
She is survived by her son, Scott Thompson and family, her grandson, Parker Thompson, older brother, Ray Eatherly of Midland, his daughter, Dana of Denver, Co, and son, David of Granbury, Tx and sister; Lynda Wheeler and husband, Van of Kingwood, Tx and their children, Neil Wheeler and family, Ft. Drum, NY and Jenn Beyer and family of Topeka, KS. She will be missed by many friends and extended family.
A Celebration of her Life will be held at Saint Andrew Christian Church, 13890, W. 127th St. Olathe, KS on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 2:00 PM. Kaye would request that you “wear your boots, if you got ‘em”.
