Kevin F. O’Brien passed away March 9, 2024, with his daughters by his side after a battle with cancer.  Kevin was born to Francis X. and Barbara O’Brien on October 19, 1947, in KCMO.  He was preceded in death by two brothers, Kerry and Jack O’Brien, and his second wife, Maureen, mother of his three daughters.   Kevin is survived by his daughters, Bridget, Molly and Maura, son Jim, stepdaughter Diane Euston, and grandchildren Erin, Phillip, Dacey, Erin, Eavan, and Riley.  He is also survived by his brother Tom, his sisters-in-law, Dee and Gina. and multiple loving nieces and nephews.  

Kevin graduated from Center HS in 1965 and joined the First Armored Division, Fourth US Army in 1966 at the height of the Vietnam War. He served as a sharpshooter as well as heavy equipment operator in Vietnam and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, as well as four Bronze Service Stars. 

 After his military service Kevin joined FX O’Brien Construction Co. as an heavy equipment operator and later as site superintendent for several years.  Kevin had a gift for not only operating but also keeping this huge equipment running. Later Kevin worked in those capacities for other construction companies along the way including Superior Asphalt. He finished his career in the area of airstrip construction.

Kevin’s three daughters were the love of his life, and he cherished the time they all spent together. He also enjoyed golf and his time with his good friends at the Daily Limit and Tanners. As a father, brother and friend, Kevin was always kind and generous to a fault.  He will be dearly missed.

A Celebration of Kevin’s life will be held on Friday, March 15th from 11am-1pm at Signature Funerals, 406 E. Bannister Rd., Ste D. Kansas City, MO 64131.  Memorial contributions may be made to Wayside Waifs, 3901 Martha Truman Rd. Kansas City, MO 64137.
