Margaret Virginia (Gibson) Borel, born on July 17, 1924 in Kansas City, Missouri, passed away at age 93 on May 23, 2018, just nine days after Mark Borel, the love of her life and husband of 75 years. She is survived by her sons, David, Steven, Michael, and Luke; and daughter, Deborah, nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Margaret showed amazing talent for the piano at a very early age. She was accompanist for the high school choir, gave lessons and played for countless church services, weddings and funerals. Margaret graduated from Southeast High School and Kansas City Junior College. She and Mark were charter members of Prairie Baptist Church where she served as church organist for many years, before becoming organist at Asbury Methodist Church. Margaret held staff positions at Newcomer’s Funeral Home, The Toon Shop, and St. Paul’s Seminary. In later years Margaret worked alongside Mark at Jules Borel & Co. Margaret was an excellent cook and loved to prepare meals for extended family. Her home was always a welcoming place for all. Her always positive attitude, pride in her family and sense of humor made her special to all who knew and loved her. A joint celebration of life for Mark and Margaret is planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers please consider contributions to NAMI Kansas (National Alliance on Mental Illness), PO Box 675, Topeka, KS 66601.
