MARION DOROTHEA MEAKIN

The end of a wonderful life came for Marion D. Meakin on August 1, 2019, at home in Prairie Village.

She was born to Chester E. Nichols and Dorothea Cecelia Seeth Nichols on January 25, 1916, in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Married to the love of her life, August 22, 1942, William K. Meakin, in East Orange, New Jersey, preceded her death August 1965. Also preceding her death were four sisters and a brother, Alma, Eleanor ”Nikki,” Dorothea “Dot”, Beatrice “Bea,” and Herbert B. Nichols, Lt Col.

She was a devoted mother to two daughters, Judi Weston (Celina,TX) and Jill Halstead (Prairie Village, KS).She volunteered for the Red Cross Gray Ladies, PTA, began a breakfast program for underprivileged children and later sponsored Junior Achievement.  She had been active with Keystone Class at Broadway UMC and Red Bridge Social Club. She retired from Western Electric and AT&T (1981) and had been a member of Telephone Pioneers of America. She was member of Leawood United Methodist Church and cherished her church friends and activities with the knitting group.

Her smile and positive messages will be missed by grandchildren David Halstead (Danielle) Raytown, MO, Cindy Wells McCasland, Slidell, TX, Crystal Wells Bird (Joe)New Orleans, LA, Alan Rafe Wells (Rachel ) Richardson, TX, and great-grandchildren Kaylee, Jace, Ben, Jerl Lee, Lauren, Lainee, Richard, Floyd IV, Noah, and numerous nephews and nieces.Services will be directed by Signature Funerals at LeawoodUnited Methodist Church, 2915 W 95th Street, Leawood, KS, Tuesday, 11:00 am, August 6, internment at Mount MoriahCemetery, 105th & Holmes, KCMO, followed by reception in Prairie Village, KS.

We give our deepest gratitude to Saint Luke’s Home Care & Hospice and private caregivers Fran, Sybil and Karen.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Leawood United Methodist Church, Saint Luke’s Hospice or the charity of your choice.
