Maryem Henshall Floyd, 86, Overland Park, died Thursday at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Floyd was born Maryem Henshall on April 1, 1935 in Osborne, Kansas, where she lived until attending college at the University of Kansas, then transferring to Kansas State University, where she met her husband, Dean.
She worked as a legal secretary, retail sales specialist, and spent most of her life volunteering for various causes & groups including the Head Start children’s program, Parkinson’s of Greater Kansas City, various breast cancer organizations, Southridge Presbyterian Church, COR, and at a domestic violence shelter. Maryem was also a member of PEO, a woman’s philanthropic educational organization for over 63 years.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Dean of Overland Park, her daughter, Jennifer Wittert of Calabasas, California; her two sons, David of Overland Park and Stephen of Lenexa; a brother, James of Corinth, Texas; and four grandchildren; Katharine, Victoria, Nicole and Austin.
The funeral will be at 10 AM Saturday at United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Firestone chapel, 13720 Roe Ave, Leawood, with Pastor Jeff Kirby officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation Heartland.
