Matt Deckard, a loving father, son, brother and life-long resident of Shawnee, KS died unexpectedly on August 24th, 2021 at the age of 53, while surrounded by family.
Matt is survived by his children; Andrew and Rebecca, his parents; John and Beverly.
Matt was born at Menorah Hospital in Kansas City, MO on August 25th, 1967 to John and Beverly. He graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest in 1986. He was a natural athlete who enjoyed weightlifting, playing football, hunting, driving fast cars and working on cars. His favorite car to work on when he had spare time was his 1968 Chevy Camaro. He enjoyed hill climbing in his jeep and hitting the powerband on his 2 stoke dirt bikes.
Matt enjoyed attending his children’s sporting events and providing treats to all their teammates. His proudest moments were attending their college graduations. Matt encouraged positivity and inclusion; he had friends in many places throughout his life.
Matt worked for Union Pacific Railroad for 26 years as an Engineer. He enjoyed food and its aspect of bringing people together; when he wasn’t driving the train, he was working on preparing his next meal to share. Making beef jerky was his specialty, he enjoyed sharing with his family and friends.
Matt’s greatest love was his children. He taught them how to love and enjoy life to the fullest. He always encouraged them to follow their dreams.
DEAR DECKARD FAMILY,I WILL MISS MATT VERY MUCH,HE WAS A GOOD FRIEND.HIS HEALTH TOOK A TURN FOR THE WORST AND THEN TOOK HIS LIFE.I KNOW HE IS PAINFREE NOW AND WATCHING OVER ALL OF YOU.HE DID ALWAYS TALK SO HIGHLY OF HIS KIDS,HE LOVED THEM SO MUCH!
