Michael Timothy Carroll
Michael Carroll, 65, a beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend passed away peacefully in his sleep July 24, 2023, after a short illness. He lived a life of faith with the most important things to him being his wife, Cindy Carroll, and son, Matthew Carroll.
Mike was born in Kansas City on November 20, 1957, to Jeanne Carroll and James D. Carroll. He was the fourth of six children. He grew up in St. Catherine’s Parish, graduated Rockhurst High School in 1976 and received a B.S. in Business/Agriculture from Northwest Missouri State University.
Other than minimal time away for work positions or college, Mike was a lifelong Kansas Citian. He loved everything about his favorite city, from the Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs (he was proud to say he never left a game early even during the losing stretches) to BBQ, Jazz and his Brookside community. Following in the great Kansas City BBQ tradition, he was an avid cook, griller and smoker of meats. He even claimed 15th–place honors at the American Royal BBQ Competition for his pork as a member of the Burnt End Boys BBQ team in the 1990s. Mike also loved his Florida State Seminoles after attending school there for a time, all college football andbasketball, watching and playing golf (his first job as a teen was as a caddy at Oakwood Country Club) and listening to sports talk radio. He had a green thumb for gardening that he gained as close caregiver to his grandfather Jordan in his younger years.
Mike married his soulmate, Cynthia Sawicki, on May 23, 1992. Some of his proudest moments were watching his only child, Matthew, graduate from his alma mater (Rockhurst) and receive his master’s degree in Renewable and Clean Energy from the University of Dayton in Ohio.
He had an impeccable work ethic, rarely missing a day (until recently) over a career that spanned more than 40 years. He began at GMAC shortly after college, where he remained for nearly 20 years and progressed up the management and sales ladders. His next 20 years were spent in automotive financial sales positions before working in inside sales roles for UEI and, most recently, Airgas. Mike never waivered from making sure his family was provided for even when the economy was challenging. We are sad that he never got to cash the one check he really wanted to… his first Social Security check!
Mike was preceded in death by his father, James D. Carroll. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Cindy; son Matthew; mother Jeanne Carroll and siblings Peggy Yousef, Dan Carroll (Maureen), Mary (Barry) Dewlen, Kathleen (Rick) Euler and Tom Carroll. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and family friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter’s Church, 815 E. Meyer Blvd., KC, MO 64131 on Friday,July 28, 2023, at 3:00 pm. A reception will follow in the Parish’s McKay Center. The service will be live-streamed at https://youtube.com/@StPetersKC?feature=shareb
The family wishes to express their love and gratitude for the outpouring of support from dear friends, their Parish community and Mike’s health care providers. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to St. Peter’s Catholic Church and Rockhurst High School.
Cindy and Matt, we are holding you on our hearts and are so sorry you lost your dear husband and Dad so suddenly. What a gentle man he was, and we hope you find comfort in knowing he is no longer suffering and is with God now. We love you so much.

What a great guy. I can’t imagine him having an enemy in the whole world.
Standing tall. Mike left us before he was bent so he could always stand tall watching over the festivities, protecting those who are His.
I can just hear him now “CINDY. Don’t make a production.” Ah…but he knows we will. Xoxo Mike. You are missed.
