Molly Sheehan Corkill
July 17, 1959 – July 29, 2019
Molly Sheehan Corkill, 60, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully in her sleep on Monday, July 29th.
Molly was born July 17, 1959 to Peggy and Leroy Sheehan in Kansas City, Missouri. She attended St. Peter’s and St. Thomas More grade schools and St. Teresa’s Academy. She spent many years in the food service industry, working at Leawood South Country Club and the Carriage Club. In 1985, along with her mother, Peggy and sister, Katy, Molly helped start Sheehan’s Irish Imports.
Molly married Paul Corkill on October 26, 1985 during game six of the Kansas City Royals World Series Championship vs. the Saint Louis Cardinals. During the first years of their marriage, Molly and Paul lived in the Westport area near the Corkill family home. They moved to their current home in Roeland Park in 1988. Molly took a break from Irish retail in the early ‘90s to serve her new community as a Roeland Park police officer.
On June 11, 1997, Molly and Paul welcomed their much-loved son, Sam. Molly became a fulltime mother and they both enjoyed watching Sam grow through his many activities at St. Agnes Grade School, Bishop Miege High School, and now Pittsburg State University. Molly was especially proud when Sam earned his Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America.
Molly became very active in the Irish community with her work on the Kansas City St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee. She served as parade co-chair in 1994 and 1995. She was then honored as a parade grand marshal, along with her fellow co-chairs, in 1998 and was entered into the Order of St. Patrick. Molly was also a founding member of the Daughters of Erin, LAAOH.
With her many years working at Sheehan’s Irish Imports, Molly became a well-known Irish figure in the community. She was fundamental in building the business with her mother and sister in Westport for thirty years. The store was finally moved to Waldo in 2015 and closed its’ doors in 2018, leading to Molly’s retirement from the world of Irish retail. She then relished her time with family and friends in her beloved She-Shed.
Molly was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Bob and Barb Corkill and her treasured Australian Shepherd dog, Bailey.
Molly leaves behind her loving husband, Paul and son, Sam of Roeland Park, Kansas; her sister, Katy Morris, and husband John (Kevin, Clare, and Dan); and sister Maggie Sheehan. The many Corkill family members left behind include: Lori and Bill Wubbenhorst (Cara and Collin Farrow (Max and Jillian); John and Mona Corkill (Tyler and Katelyn, (Lincoln Corkill); Alyssa and Josh Liesveld (Aidan and Nora); Shelby and Haley); Mark and Nancy Corkill (Rebecca (Isabella); Eric and Allie); Luke and Karen Corkill (Rachel, Andrew and Nicholas); Earl and Amy Corkill (Matthew and Ryan); Joel and Patricia Corkill (Jessica and Alec); Melody and Mike Wagner; Kent and Melissa Corkill (Grant, Kyle and Ben).
Molly will be deeply missed by her family and friends and all who were lucky enough to meet her in this community. She never met a stranger throughout her travels in the U.S. and she especially treasured her time spent with her dear friends in Ireland. Slan leat, Mols…you are forever in our hearts.
A Rosary will be held Monday, August 5th at 4:30pm followed by a visitation from 5-7pm. Molly’s Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, August 6th from 4-7pm. Both services will be held at Drexel Hall, 3301 Baltimore Ave, Kansas City, Missouri. Flowers may be sent to Drexel Hall, 3301 Baltimore Ave., Kansas City MO. Assistance by Funeral Advocates, LLC.

It feels like I lost a member of my family. My sister, Colleen, and her were best friends and I feel like she was a sister to me. She spent a lot of time at our house and so did Maggie. I still can not believe she is gone and I feel so bad for her husband, son, family and friends. She could make anyone smile, her laugh was contagious and she was such an inspiration to the Irish ☘️ community. Love ❤️ you. My prayers and thoughts are with the family and friends.

So sorry to hear about your loss Paul. May the Lord be with you and your family in your time of need.
Oh SO SORRY to hear this!!!! We SO enjoyed going down to Sheehan’s on Westport Road all these years, and Molly was ALWAYS so “buzzing” and upbeat!!! Many a time Peggy, Katy & Molly came up to Leavenworth on our request for the ethnic festival, and I don’t know HOW MANY TIMES they donated something to us for a fundraising raffle we were having to keep OUR parade going!!!
Kansas City is a LOT sadder place with her passing to be sure!! BUT Heaven is a lot brighter now with herself present!!
Condolences from ALL of Leavenworth’s Irish, and may she rest in peace eternal…
